Ok, I've been holding this in for the past couple of months and need to know what the heck that little diecast metal slab is supposed to be thats included with gd-98 mechagodzilla.

It's a piece of "space titanium," the metal that was used by the aliens to build Mechagodzilla. If you watch Terror of Mechagodzilla, it makes perfect sense.

The fragment of space titanium actually appears in the first film. Although it could be said that when MechaG is destroyed the second time, it rains down in abundance.
Now, where is the black version I have been waiting for!

You're entirely right, I had my Showa MG movies crossed, but it's still the same idea.
Bandai's release of GD-98 didn't fit their usual patterns (for Goji figures) of releasing a flat standard version first, then exclusive chrome/alternate paint versions. They just released GD-98 with chrome and called it a day. Odd, but hopefully a repaint of some kind will come.

I like the finish on the 75. I think they got it about right. The 74 first version was kinda dull while the chrome variant is a little too shiny for "real" MechaG. A black GD98B would be the frosting on the cake of MechaG toys!

Here are the figures : The GD56 is top left, the GD98 is top right sans head. GD56M center bottom with GD57 left and GD57B on the right. I still need the GD45, GD45M and GD57M to complete the modern chogokin MechaG's.

I purchased a GD57M for an online acquaintance of mine way back, and the day or so that I owned it were like magic. It's a beautiful figure, but any chogokin of Kiryu is, really. You missed out if you needed a GD45, BigBadToyStore had it for $47 or so. GD45M is the one that was an event exclusive or something, and I'm glad Bandai made up for that indignity somewhat by making 57M a bit less rare. No love for the Gigans, or are they with the Gotengo on the next shelf?
