I'm sorry I'm such a newbie. all these versions. wasn't there a gx-02R already? so is this a RE-reissue? sorry. plus does anyone know if this model(2006) will be much different from the previous Gx-02r?

i think it will be practically the same.. if there could be any. might be the box's stamped date.. in the robot.. might be the tone of paint used or any HK gift item will be given away but otherwise it is practically the same as the first release GX-02R

finally seen the recent reissued GX-02R... slight difference between the two would be the stryfoam casing in which the gokin was boxed.. while the recent reissued was place in a plastic blister packaging.. another was the slight darker color variation of the brain condor.. slightly more reddish than it's predecessor.. but it colud have been my eyes.. i might be wrong though...

What is the retail price right now? Ebay with shipping is close to 85USD and they don't have these at sites like HLJ.com. I don't know why, they have the GX-01R at HLJ.com and at BBTS. I wanted to order through BCBcomics but glad I didn't because it seem like they couldn't get that many from diamond distribution.

Hey everybody,
Sorry to kick this very old thread back up, but I didn't want to start a new thread with my question. So anyway, I broke down and ordered the Great Mazinger/Venus 2 pack at BBTS the other day and I was just wondering if there are any differences between these two and the originals that come by themselves? I apologize if this is a "dumb" question, but I'm still a rookie when it comes to SOC collecting. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

the difference would be the outer box itself which contains the two individually "boxed" great mazinger and venus ace.. other than the outer box.. nothing differs.. but from the first issue to the recent release.. there is a slight difference from the packaging inside.. from stryfoam box to a plastic blister ones..

FYI here is an actual picture of the great mazinger's reissue.. check out the plastic blister that craddles the great mazinger.. the first release contains a styrofoam for the great mazinger.. thanks to raffy/spanky for the picture

?! Bandai is replacing styrofoam packing with plastic blisters?! Are they really cutting cost, or does it only apply for the double sets?

Plastic blisters are more economically and environmenally friendly. Styrofoams are toxic to the ozone layer. there's nothing wrong with plastic blisters in my opinion.

The only problem I have with the plastic trays is they're not as protective as the styrofoam. When you're talking about a hunk of diecast traveling half-way around the world, that thin little plastic tray isn't going to hold him very well, or support the box from getting crushed.

Actually, the toy is much more secured that way, it fits the plastic pretty right and has a top cover to secure it making it sealed. About the outer box, I'm sure they put those bubble plastic outside to protect it from external damage. I got mine from HLJ and believe me, for such a small toy, they put lots of those bubble plastic making the shipment look big.

The styro packaging is more classy.

The styro packaging is more classy. yep and this seperates the first issue from the "reissue".. and yes there is nothing wrong with the plastic nor the styro.. and the plastic blister does not only apply from the "sets".. the single pack ok the GX-02R also contains a blister.. and i agree that blister compared to the styro are prone to "crashed box".. and i also agree that styro are more classy.. but that's just my two cents.. everybody has it's onw taste and like.. to each his own

I like the styrofoam packaing better; it's easier for me to lift the SOC outta da box.
My major beef with blisters is that I gotta cut 'em open real carfefully with an exacto knife. I'm spending five or so minutes trying to open the darn blister when I coulda already been playin with my gokin by then.
Also, the gokin is wedged so tightly inside the blister mold, I could almost break it trying to wrestle it outta da mold. Then I'll have to wrestle the toy back into the mold for transporting it if I should ever relocate to another apartment. I fear I might lose my patience and break the gokin either way. Unfortunately, that's just me bein so impatient about it.

NO, the plastic blister aren;t sealed in the SOCs. They are very much easy to open. they have these little round things on 4 corners so that the cover fits like a lock and key thus holder it firmly.
