Well, I finally opened and assembled my GX-31, Voltes V and I love it. It is so well designed and in many ways, the robot exceeds my expectations.
Now on to my main topic.... I feel like I have everything I want for now, SOC-wise (Voltes V represents the apex of my obsession). As most of you know, I have the whole collection (color versions of GX-01 to GX-31 and all of the PX's). I love my collection and as of now, I do not have the need to go forward.
It doesn't help that GX-32 and GX-31 seem really ridiculous to me (no offense to the fans of the two). I just find them too cheesy and silly looking. And the upcoming ones do not interest me as well. I feel like Bandai is running out of cool robots to release.
This does not mean that I may not get other SOC's in the future. Heck if Daimos is released, I will be one of the first ones to get it. And I may ask for the GX-34 Gunbuster for my birthday next year (but I could live without it).
I'll continue to participate in the board because I really enjoy the kinship with you guys. Thanks for answering all of my questions and for making me feel like I am a part of a community. No one in my immediate and outer circle of family and friends can quite relate to my SOC craze. You guys rule!!!

I can totally understand what your saying. I also feel like my collection is winding down. I find that I only buy the pieces that really interest me now. As of right now I am really being hampered by lack of display room. Gunbuster will be my last SOC for a while until Ideon materializes.

You know wut bro im stopping as well. Not because of the up coming uninterested ones, just because Bandai keep reissuing them over and over again. I feel really stupid when I paid 100$ for something and then I see the price of it went 70 later on you noe~~~
FUK bandai.

I think generally soc has been moving to some lesser designs... Daimos should be on their minds. Dangard, etc. If they built some newer and even more interesting designs, perhaps that would change some of this sentiment that is brewing...

The only way to quit is to go cold turkey, and I don't think I can do that. Eventually another great soc will be released and will spark our interest once more, so for the time being I'm concentrating on some other lines as well as a few vehicle chogokin rather than robots. What I'm really interested in at the moment is the upcoming Arcadia as well as the Thunderbirds zero-x from aoshima.

well, if you are a SOC-only collector then I can understand you quite well.... but if you just turn your head slightly you will notice that there are hundreds of equally cool robot toys to collect but alas, maybe you better do not look, cause if you do you'll end up spending the rest of your wealth on those

The reality of it is, the average collector like most of us here, won't be able to stop that easily. So far I haven't been that dissapointed with the SOC lineup, except that I think they should stick with releasing the early generation of super robots first. There are times when I think I will stop ..................BUT......... let's face it there will always be something else to catch our attention. I for one, in betwen SOC releases, have stopped collecting the Takara Transformer Binaltechs (except for the Masterpieces) but shifted attention to the vintage Godaikins. Now I have started to pinpoint the Power Ranger megazords (only the ones with diecast mind you) and have also started eyeing the early Diaclone toys (diecast of course). So unless a "stop collecting" pill or vaccine shot is invented, I think we're all in this mode for the long haul. Quite possibly for the rest of our lives. Of course that may not stop there, I plan to be reincarnated as the son of a billionaire so money won't be a problem when I collect again. ;D How bout you guys?

I feel really stupid when I paid 100$ for something and then I see the price of it went 70 later on you noe~~~ FUK bandai. True... Not to mention the slew of other toys coming out. Personally, I still have to contend with my Macross collection, and with Yamato steadily dishing out Valkyries left and right, I'm in a fricken sling! Good thing Gunbuster will come out. He's the pinnacle of my SOC Collection. He's probably the last SOC I'll be getting, unless Bandai releases the 3D's I'm hoping for. Dangard Ace, Daitarn III, and Daimos. mazfan: I'm sure it was a great time for you bro, the same way it was for the rest of us old farts.

I have the same feeling Mazfan, thougt i have some other robots out of the soc line i guess i have no more interest until they release more super robots, i'm having the tenptation of start collecting Batman and superman resin figures more than anything while Bandai release something worth buying, after gx31 only gunbuster is in my sight and fewture's getter 3.

I am pretty much the same. After I acquired Voltes V my interest in SOC has gone down. Like what mazfan wrote...Voltes V is the apex of my obsession. I would definitely be waiting for Daimos and hopefully Mekanda Robot-and that would complete my obession-if not-then I am happy with Voltes V.
I am still logging here frequetly but the number of posts that I make has considerably decreased. This forum had helped me a lot and I still consider this forum as a "family."
Thanks for making it all possible....

Hmmm, I guess I'm different. I'm an Anime fan first so the huge variety in the SOC line is perfect for me. Where else can you get a Mazinger Z, Gunbuster, Eva, and a Ideon in the same line and made out of diecast. I love the mix of old and new designs and I know sooner or later figures like Daimos and Reideen will be made.
The whole price and re-issue aspect is a non-issue for me since I NEVER collected SOC's for monetary reasons. I say if you overpaid then that's your fault, Bandai never said these things were limited and it's not up to Bandai to make you money on the secondary market. If you want to make money get a job.

Hi mayita. I only have about 45 GX's (all the color versions, 1 black and white Combattler V and all of the PX's--including the awesome Yamato ship).
I am one of those really rare collectors that never had the urge to stray from the SOC line. I feel that acquiring a new series would contaminate the purity of my SOC line, displayed nicely in my beautifully lit Ikea glass cases. I know that this is crazy talk.... I think what really happens is that my rational side prevents me from spending more than I have already invested (over $5,000 in SOC).
So, I am happy with what I have and I don't ever see myself getting non-SOC robots. Plus, I really don't have room in my shelves anymore. I don't have any more space at home for more shelves and I don't ever want my display cases to look over populated.
Yes, Daimos, Balatak and Dangard will be exceptions.

Yeah. same sentiments here. I'm kinda slowing down - just getting the ones that I like. I'm not a completist - only "What OJA wants, OJA gets... within reason & budget " Still waiting for daimos, balatak & danguard ace....

You don't have to stop collecting, maybe just take a break from collecting robots for now and try a different genre. Ever since I got my Voltes, I've gone into collecting other stuff... most recent are action figures and 1/18 diecast cars and I find it refreshing that I can switch to anyone of those when I get bored of a particular one. I always comeback here to check for new developments, since I'm still waiting for Daimos. The only draw back is that you are just replacing a habit with another one...

I am still into my 4AD record label collection--I've been at this since high school in the mid-80's. This is a less expensive obsession and design/music based. 4AD's most known bands are Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Red House Painters and of course, The Pixies (there is a Pinoy member in the band). I think that I can claim to be the only one that collects both SOC's and stuff from this obscure music label.
