You know even though I truly admire the design and aesthetic of these figures I find them a little soulless. Perhaps it's because there is no Manga or Anime depicting these renditions so for me there nothing more than a design exercise, a great one though.
But beyond that they are great figures and I would be very proud if I could afford to have them in my collection. My only regret is that Sato was only getting started and we never saw what else he had in mind, I'm sure his re-imagining of great Super Robots like the Getter Robo G team, Grendizer, Great Mazinger and the rest would have been truly awe inspiring!

very nice diabolos! soon i will have my getter team complete too| and i will have to lose some thinking how i will display them together so i can get the best out of them! i think a more compact formation type approach will work very well since it gives more of that team spirit feeling! and they are capable of some very dynamic poses! much more than the socs!

I guess it's because I don't have any emotional attachment to the figures and seeing them in a story or animated would probably change that, but that still wouldn't stop me from buying them if I had the money.

I do have to agree that these are a more souless interpretation, but that's what inspires me about them. They look tough and unemotional, like robot assassins or something, perhaps built for more destructive or aggressive purposes than defensive or iconic reasons.

They look tough and unemotional, like robot assassins or something, perhaps built for more destructive or aggressive purposes than defensive or iconic reasons. i did have the same issues with them but i have been becoming more and more familiarised with them. but they are a bit souless, unemotional and all that. but recently i started to watch gundam anime namely gundam 78 to start right... so what about the zakus and goufs? they really are souless and unemotional agressive looking machines! with that red eye that must have inspired terminator! and on getter armageddon the getters especially getter 2 look so evil and are very violent! i guess it is a sign of the times...

Zakus and Goufs have 1 large pink eye that moves left and right on a rail. I don't see the connection to the 2 red eyes of the terminator.
I think most of the designs from the original gundam series have just as much soul as lots of the 70's super robots, but I think they lose it in many of the modern renditions which try to make them look realistic.

i know the zakus only have 1 eye while the T has 2 but they have the same exact fear inducing purpose. i say the zakus are souless because they were intended to be that way like some ghostly devilish medieval knight armor. while the rx78 looks like the shinny knight in white armor and has a much more human face. and while i think the zakus are intended to appear soulless and unemotional it doesnt mean i think the designs don´t have a soul. pretty much the opposite like you!
