...anyone here got one of either of these? did a quick forum search and couldn't find anything.
I got a great deal on the Falcon Voltes V Base, so it's on its way. should i keep or sell?
i know you guys are in love with Voltes so what do you think? I've only seen the 1st 10 episodes of the show, and i've had a few Vintage Voltes over the years, not a Voltes expert though. but it looked SO COOL and i was getting other things, so i figured i'd take a chance.
The wife & me LOVE Mazinger, is that one cool too? it seems to have gotten a little more expensive recently...
i figure i'd ask you guys....

Had the SOC Motorized Mazinger base but I had to sell it. I read that it was good but the motor was faulty on some out of the box....

I have an initial release and the motor died after awhile. It now sits in the back of the case with a GX-07 in it. The extra-rocket punch accessory was a nice idea. It was really cool but kind of loud when it worked.

Now, Why would an SOC figure have a "motorized" base?
--I mean, what happens when ya turn the motor On?-- Is the SOC gonna drop its pants and do a dance? ;D

I still have mine, also an initial release. It still works fine the last time I used it, but have been sitting in the box for a couple years, mainly taking too much space and eat a lot of dust on top, where all the extra arms and accessories are sitting. For around $50 back then, its was pretty fun. Heck of noisy though when you start it up. But seeing Mazinger rising up from the top opening panels are pretty darn cool.

my mazinger base is the background of my collection too. i don't play with it much maybe like 10 time and it stop working. i took it a part and its pretty complex to fix. wast of money.. a sad $80 wasted.. could have gotten something else. the funny thing was that i was thinking of listing it on ebay so i took it out to take pictures and test it out before selling it. but faith have it, it broke while being test.

Man, would've been nice if tha Maz base had a stronger motor in it... it probably burns out from the weight of the figure resting on the platform after so long not using it.

My, My... all the horror from what could've been a really Cool toy.
If I had one that broke on me like that, I'd fix it so it would catapult the figure right through the ceiling. ;D

That's funny Magengar. BTW, this thread is called Voltes V and Mazinger bases, I just would like to point out that these are two different items. The Bandai base that can be used from Mazinger or Grendy or any similar sized SOC has the motorized lift that, with early model lacked the lubrication so the motors would burn out. I am one of the lucky ones I must say in that my base was working last time I saw it out of the box. I've also used a synthethic WD-40 like spray on the rails to keep it lubed. I've read some folks use KY, our all time favorite lube, however the spray I use is thinner and not as messy and works very well. Oh, yeah it is NOT PTFE based.
The Voltes V base is made by "Toy Secret". This is an HK mass produced custom, which I think is very similar to the 1/100 scale Gundam base accessories. Keep in mind neither the Voltes V base nor the Gundam bases are licensed or official products. The Voltes V base looks great, some assembly is required and sure beats trying to make one yourself on the ease of assembly scale. ;D ;D ;D

yes they are 2 different items. there doesn't seem to be very much interest in playsets/bases of ANY type nowadays, so i threw both questions in. sorry to confuse.
yeah i got a great price on the Voltes base with some other stuff, and i got a Voltes SOC recently, i really got into the show (thanks to youtube!) so i figured why not? I had a really minty Godaikin Voltes about 6-7(?) years ago, but i decided to sell it (hey, i got a vacation off of that!) and had a few loose & incomplete ones over the years.
when i started hardCORE collecting in 1995 i was ALL ABOUT 3 3/4-inch action figure playsets, that was my main focus up until 4 years ago when i got hit with the robot bug. They really have great shelf presence and make your collection look awesome. i can't even tell you how many people could have cared less for my vintage star wars or GI JOE collection until the Sandcrawler, Cantina, and the big ol USS FLAGG (it's like 10 FEET long when you put it together!), and Mego Planet Of The Apes, etc were displayed.
i've found the playsets/dioramas/bases are ALWAYS the toughest to get complete, the bigger the better. I had to get rid of 99% of them due to space in my apartment- dag!
About lubricating motors/toys/etc: WD-40 is really good, it will stain some plastics though. You can get this stuff called FAST FADER- its designed for DJ equipment, and is available at any pro DJ store that sells records, mixers, turntables, etc. - and it is THE product, its safe on electronics and metal moving parts, wont stain plastic, etc. - very safe for all your robot needs.
DON'T EVER EVER use KY- it's very thick and can dry in its thick state, causing damage- ive seen disasters with professional audio gear before, long story and way off topic, but it can eat through rubber if left to dry, and can cause rust on internal parts! there is some chemical in it that can react to dry or dirty rubber. badbad!
if you really really need to lube your toy or a part, especially a vintage motor- try EXTRA VIRGIN OLVIE OIL. i kid you not. it works great. just make sure you dont get it all over- it'll start to stain if left on vintage plastic in a 1cm or bigger "puddle" for more than 48hrs.
i think i'm gonna try to pick up one of those Maz bases now- i wonder if i swap out the motor for a stronger one, maybe it'll work a little better.
i will most DEF post a full review of the Falcon Base when it arrives next week.
