After thinking about this for most of the day.... I just want to say that I see your point. I do feel that I have been expressing way too much negativities on many levels about the recent SOC's. I truly didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings about my certain SOC bashing. I guess I just needed to vent for a few months (yeah, that is a long time). The new SOC's just had that affect on me.
I believe that I have gotten everything out of my system now. Thanks for putting up with my rants. In the future, I would give more of a constructive criticism about my likes and dislikes for a particular SOC.
You guys are right, blunty saying that a robot is ugly is not cool.
Thanks,
Mazfan

Don't dwell on it bro. We're all compadres here. If it's any consolation, the guys here are fairly impartial and aren't really fanatics over a toy line unlike other sites I go to, so it's a great place to ask and do some research before buying.
As far as my comments of being "closed minded", it wasn't an insult, so don't take it personally. I do aplogize if it offended you. There are other toy lines out there from different companies. The SOC line isn't the "end it all" line in this hobby. Just broaden your horizons and you'll see there are other toys out there that are just as good as the SOC line or even better. Case in point is Aoshima's Mazinkaiser or Toynami's Voltron, I was actually blown away at the heft and aesthetics of their simple design. Try your pallet on other things and you might be pleasantly surprised (It's not like you can have chinese food seven days a week). Word of advice though is you have to be willing to live with the decisions you make. It's just the nature of this or any hobby.

Hey Mazfan, I for one respect your opinions- and your input is just as important as everyone else's input. Saying that a robot is "ugly" is only Uncool if ya don't explain what makes the robot look ugly, in your opinion. We're only Human; and we've been blessed with the gift to speak our minds. People are not offended by what we express, but How we express it. As always, some folks may not like it- others will just fun around with it- conversations come and go, as usual. When someone tells me their opinion about something, I'd rather hear them Let It All Out than just pretend they're not affected at all. You've seen how I get blunt in my posts... just speakin my mind, while at the same time being entertaining. ;D And, I always welcome input from others. So, Fear Not, Bro'... You are Family here, because You Matter to us. Update: Gdomino's right, it's cool to expand your horizons and see what other neat things this hobby has to offer. zozo-Magengar

i like when people criticise robots. if i am not mistaken you were bashing gx-30 right? i totally disagreed with you but i think it is healthy to have that kind of friendly discussions. sometimes it makes me wonder about my own opinions. and it is better than always hearing "me toos"! so what if you got affected by something!

Mazfan, we're all friends here, so a little rant now and then is OK!
I think most of us would agree these toys are art, and an immediate reaction, even a profoundly negative one, is OK. The strength of your reaction only demonstrated how much you like the SOC line. Everybody has an inherently personal relationship with their collection(and art).
opinions, good, bad, or indifferent, are fine.

I think that you are most definitely entitled to your opinion. Every toy will appeal to different people in different ways. I think if I were to write my opinion, negative or otherwise, I would post it as a review. Review the toy for all it's aspects, point out different things that I find not appealing and/or appealing and then concluded it with a final opinion. i.e. for the reasons stated above I am highly disappointed in Battle Fever J GX-30.
I think what set off a lot of people, is that there seem to be this condition lately with toys that is leaving many collectors with tunnel vision. The one that most are waiting for, Voltes V has finally arrived and PVD sets in and people are looking at the releases waiting to get the same feeling as with Voltes V.
Bandai has been releasing robots that are not familiar with some of us here as Voltes, Mazinga and Daimos is. But keep in mind for some North American collectors, none of these are familiar with maybe seeing the Godaikin in 1980's or a glimpse of the robot on a magazine page.
I know most of you grew up watching the some of these shows and it became a huge part of your lives, well to some, mainly the Japanese, most, if not all these shows have become parts of their lives. So, Bandai releases toys that will bring in the money.
Many of times we tend to prejudge the robots without even seeing or knowing anything about the robot in which it represents e.g. Kingjoe. Kingjoe is bashed more than any other SOC in this board. Why? To many they have no connection or understanding who King Joe is/was. But for many King Joe is a welcomed addition to the SOC line, specially those of us with the ultrachogokins of Ultraseven, etc.
I think many of us react negatively when one bashes on a robot that we connect with because most of the flames were remarks that were mostly surface and ignorant. But yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but to borrow a line from Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsiblity." The freedom of expression was never meant to have someone with diarrhea of the mouth to sputter anything without consequence. When you express an opinion, popular or otherwise, positive or negative, be prepared to reep what you sow. We all have the right express ourselves as well.
I am a recent convert of King Joe. I never really paid attention to him, and could have cared less. However, I started watching some of the old shows, live action and anime that I was not exposed to as a kid and found a new interest in the Kaiju who broke the Eyelugger of Ultraseven. Same goes for Kamen Rider, V3 was the least of my favorite, since I didn't like the color. After watching the show and getting the story behind the mask, V3 is one of my favorite riders of all time.
But Mazfan, "I ain't mad at cha." You can do and say what you want, we ARE all like brothers here, but occasionally we will get into disagreements. My advice is to give each toy a chance, try to find what may be appealing about it, if you still hate it post it, but say that after yada, yada and yada, I still think yada sucks amphibian gonads...Then be prepared for a counter opinion. Peace and Adobo grease, pards.

Mazfan,
I hope that it is safe for me to assume that, if one is a forum member, they are (to some degree) passionate about this hobby. Some might even they say that this is a "love" since childhood or something they never outgrew.
I also get dissapointed when the recent SOC release is not to my liking, but, at the same time, I feel happy and excited for my fellow collectors who were waiting for that toy. I can relate to how they waited and wished that the toy would get made. Majority of members here can probably attest the joy that they feel when what they were hoping for comes up next. The only thing that the fans really hopes for is that the quality of the toy is up to what they are expecting.
Myself, I was ecstatic when most of the stuff I watched in the Philippines came out (eg.Mazinger, Voltes, Getters, Grendizer, etc.). Fortunately most of them were IMO good quality. Of course there are still lots that I am still waiting for (daimos, jeeg, etc)
IMHO I feel lucky that they are putting out toys which I thought were long dead. Never did I expect that a more anime accurate toy of robots such as voltes or grendizer would be out.
We are all fans...let us all hope for good quality toys and for the SOC line to continue until all of the robots we love gets made. As I mentioned in another thread "Just pray hard that your list comes sooner rather than later".
Peace and Joy to Mazfan and other collectors. I hope that all of your SOC wish comes true and in Great quality (Hopefully mine first before yours.Hahaha.j/k). ;D

Thanks very much you guys. I feel better now... Especially after reading all of your nice comments. Yeah, I just realized that I gave a litany of negative messages for the past couple of months (starting with THE END OF MY SOC COLLECTION). Uhmmm.... I have not stopped. I got Gunbuster immediately and I am now planning on acquiring Ideon. I did skip and will continue to skip other SOC's, I am not a completist anymore. As I mentioned, I just needed to vent. I think that I went overboard but I am now over it. I'll be more respectful in the future. Thanks again, you guys are the best! Mazfan

If it's any added consolation Mazfan, your criticisms don't bother me at all. As everyone else said you have a right to voice your opinion. I may not agree with them at times but it's no problem. Plus I don't think you delivered your opinions in a disrespectful way, you delivered them accordingly and that is very important. You have your own standards as far as your collecting goes and the rest of us have our own. Let's hope the next SOC's live up to all of our standards.

Yeah cuz, that Boss Borot is one ugly Motherfuc...LOL Just kidding, actually you think about it most robots are ugly in the classical sense of ugly. They are metal things that are often times colored in clashing or overtly falshy colors. Das ugly...But Ugly as in the toy sucks and does appeal to me, das different.

There was a time when I thought I'd never like the Getters. I started feeling that way the first time I ever saw Getter1's face... ...just a Batmite face with three sick holes. I'd always been used to liking robots with "human" faces or at least a face close to Mazinger's, in resemblance. The Getter1 struck me cold, so I ignored it for a while...
...but, in the back of my mind, I liked Getter1's color-scheme. I tried to ignore the Getters for several years... until I later realized that Getter Dragun (who was also one of my favorite Shogun Warrior jumbo figures) was not only part of the Getter set, but he also Is a Getter...
...Three years ago, I downloaded a torrent of the Go Nagai anime movie "Great Mazinger vs Getter Robo G"... That was the first time I ever got to see Getter1 AND Dragun in anime. I became impressed with both Getters and the things they could do.
I'm not as diehard a fan for the Getters as I am for Mazinger; but, the more I learn about Getter1 the more I grow to like him. Now I think, next to Boss Borot, Getter1 has a cute dramatic face for comic-relief, as seen in the ToysInAction threads. ;D

Peace, love and robots!
Mazfan, we all get heated about our hobby sometimes. I was in a bad mood the other day and reacted harshly to your post. My bad and I hope there are no hard feelings. After all, we are just talking about toys. Peace, bro.
Now, bring on the Daimos and Raideen! ;D

Well, like it or not we are a dysfunctional close-nit "family"- As long as you are a member here, you are stuck with the good & the not so good here...But why are we here & keep coming back? Because it is nice/great to be a part of a group that fully understands this hobby. We are a diverse group with unique individualized opinions. We do not have to agree on everything. Coz that would be so Borg! That being said, we are united with one thread- the passion of collecting robots. So don't dwell too much on our differences- although we love robots, we are not robots. we are individuals hey, we are a community - not a collective...
