I'm just now doing a dusting and rearranging of my SOC shelves. When I checked my GX05r, the Daikumaryu, I found that the clips on the hook shaped blades that fasten on to the wings were all broken. The plastic spike rings that fit on the 'knee' joints are all broken as well. The plastic is really cheap and brittle. This sucks. This is one of the 'made in Thailand' pieces. Anyone else have these problems?

GX05r was made in China like the other SOCs- it was the normal GX05 that was made in Thailand. That certainly does suck though. That's one of the ones that's really cheap in Japan- theyve got it for 30% off now through amazon.co.jp. The sad thing for me is i see nice deals like that and 30% off for gunbuster, 45$ off for Leopardon, 45% off for the DMZ Strikedog etc, but it's too much of a pain shipping stuff like that back to the US.

I could expand this to a complaint about SOC quality control in general. On closer inspection the finish on the 05R is disappointing. But going over my shelf I find loose joints, flawed finishes, finicky figures that are a PIA to pose, fragile parts- I could go on. And what's odd- I never really noticed any of this until now. Or I chose not to pay attention to this stuff until the newness and dazzle had worn off the toys. I hate to drag this tired old observation out, but my 30 year old Combattler and Voltes look better than some of my three year old SOC's.

The vintage robots are more durable in all aspects including paint. The paint is thicker with some flexibility and can take a beating, but S.O.C will just chip if hit the wrong way.

The pity too- take the Eva's for example. I have written lots of good stuff about the Evangelion SOC figures. They are probably the most playable of the SOC pieces- definitely the most poseable. Or they should be. But on most of mine either the hip, knee, or ankle joints are loose, and the poseability is compromised. The extending legs on the Gaiking and Grendaizer are sloppy. Considering the price these pieces cost and the minimal and careful handling that they have received, this is just not acceptable. HMMMM I'm getting steamed here. Think I'll go cool off for a while.

Sorry to hear about your situation JWM. I didn't realize that the GX-05R is THAT fragile...
I know what you mean about the SOC EVAs. Since they are so much poseable, the joint will become loose in a matter of weels. Unless positioned in a certain angle, my Eva Unit-04 won't stand properly and will start slouching. Lots of paint chips in the sole of the foot, too.
The chrome finish also scratch easily.

I have to laugh, kidchuckle. I've been considering doing just that. Dayum, how's that for a customer base? Sell your customers a flawed piece with shoddy workmanship, and cheap material- -and they'll buy TWO! I think we need help. JWM
