Here we go. The word "Chogokin" does not in any way translate to a toy with diecast content. It was a made up word created in the original animes to denote the type of super-alloy that the robots were constructed from. The fact that the toys back then happened to be mostly, not always, constructed from diecast is/was a gimmick to sell toys. There are many examples from Popy's line of Chogokin toys that were constructed from plastic. So saying that the toy does not belong in the line holds zero ground. There is, after all, some diecast content in the toy, and the toy was produced in the Popy Chogokin line of toys back in the day. THAT is the reason that he belongs in the SOC lineup. At this point, we are getting to the "agree to disagree" stage. When I said that you should re-assess your collecting habit, I was referencing the large portion of the crowd that thinks these things are investments, and think that the more diecast content they have, the more the toy will be worth later on. This appears not to be the case for you. While I would have liked more diecast in this figure as well, I feel that Bandai did an excellent job rendering the character, while keeping the various modes fairly easy to pull off. All good debate among us toy geeks! Couldn't have said it better myself! Chogokin is super alloy. Brand name use by Popy. So this is the soul of the old Popy-type toys.

Let's see... a $15.00 100% plastic, awesome detailed, excellent sized, transformable, tons of accessories, and super poseable Reideen }D I wouldn't call it transformable since you need to add bazillion parts to achieve the god bird mode.

I have the regular color Miracle Action Reideen, I paid more than $15 for it, certainly not as much as the SOC. It is bigger, the sculpt is close, just a tad not as good as the SOC. No metal at all, which is not a huge concern. But comes with a purple thingy! The SOC is really not as bad as some puts it out to be, it is of course subjective, but is has good articulation, nice size, great detail. Yes, it is not as heavy as Mazinger or other SOC's but it looks awesome. I understand what you guys mean, it does feel a bit fragile, but less fragile than say anything from Toynami. It's an adult collectors toy, not really meant as your backyard beater.

I would not have any gripes whatsoever if the SOC Reideen was the same size as the SOC Combattler and Voltes V. Hell, if they had made it that size, I would not even complain about the minimal amount of diecast used on it and the high price of the figure... and I would have purchased at least two of them!

I got my GX 41 today for Father's Day (I couldn't wait for tomorrow) and I'm with everyone hatting on the plastic boots. I couldn't wait for Raideen to be made in SOC form and the result were somewhat unimpressive.

I must be in the minority here 'cause the plastic lower legs don't bother me at all. The metallic paint there makes up for it. I sort of wish the red parts were also metallic, though. What does bother me is the swords falling off. There's no good reason not to have made the godbreaker a permanent connection to the ring.....with just the swords removable. (The connections can probably be improved with superglue "studs" applied with a toothpick) I wouldn't call it a fragile toy because whenever I inspect all the moving parts I realize that nothing's in danger of ACTUALLY breaking. It feels fragile, but it's actually not. It's really just floppy. Still, I've been able to put this SOC in poses that no Reideen before has been able to pull off...floppiness and all. I think the EVAs are the only other Bandai SOCs with similar posability ( I don't own them, so I'm just guessing). Like 00silvergt said earlier, it's definitely an adult collectible item, not a kid's toy. I realize some SOCs may be a little more in the other category, but this one is more on the collectible/display side. One of the coolest chogokin releases ever--the MF Mazinkaiser....has a similar feel to it...mainly because of the loose sword/hilt connections and the fragile points on it's wings BUT I'd never NEVER sell it 'cause it looks Godly on it's stand. It SCREAMS "centerpiece". I think the Raideen DX w/mountain is a similar deal....to me at least. If you fix the godbreaker connections with the superglue it'll have a leg up on the MF Kaiser. Well maybe not...because Kaiser is Kaiser. And I realize some will say "For $150 I SHOULDN'T HAVE to FIX ANYTHING---Waaauughh---Japan Inc. has STOLEN from me again---for something like the 9th time...even though I swore I'd never fall for it again...boohooo!!!" Yeah, what else is new...

I have actually been playing more with King Joe than with Raideen... Side by side...Raideen feels cheap. The accessories also feel like they are made of cheap recycled plastic. Whenever I am handling Raideen's face shutters, I worry I am going to break the channels. It just feels fragile. On the other hand my GX-09R feels sturdier (with exception of the face shutter). Yup I am pretty dissapointed. Why can't Bandai package it with a stronger, studier carton box? The whole thing just feels cheaply made and overpriced.

What can I say... another unsatisfied SOC Reideen owner. I am willing to bet Ebay will be seeing a lot of these in the near future.
Oh well, there is always the possibility of an GX-41R...

It is a shame, you know. I wanted an SOC REIDEEN since the release of the GX-03 Combattler, and Bandai comes out with this crap...

I'm sorry that so many folks are unhappy with the Reideen. I'm actually loving it; it is the best rendition of the character that I've come across so far.
And in reference to an earlier comment about whether or not it is selling; that makes no difference to me. Pet Rocks sold like crazy in the 70's; but the fact that lots of folks bought them didn't change the fact that they were just rocks. Lots of folks buying an item doesn't make it somehow 'better'. For me, the value of a 'bot has nothing to do with how many other people buy it; it's all about the connection and memories that I associate with it. With the SOC Reideen, the connection is strong and the memories it brings back are good. This SOC is a winner in my book.
By the way; in addition to the Reideen, I'm also seeing plenty of just about EVERY other 'bot you could think of on sale on ebay and other online stores. If one assumes that the fact that an item is available means that it is worthless, I guess ALL of the robots we collect are worthless.

I think Raideen looks great, I just wanted more gokin in my chogokin. I just can't see why Bandai didn't give us metal boots.

Does not. I think someone should start a poll to settle this matter. However, to be fair when voting everyone should take all aspects of the SOC into consideration (design, transformation, metal content, accessories, etc.). I for one really like how Reideen came out. I have some small issues with it, but what SOC release doesn't have some sort of issues. None of the problems I have with it detract from owning it at all.
