Is it worth getting the GE-01? Totally. Comes with a huuuuuuge f**king gun. Since you're getting GD-99, check it out 1st; if you have no problems with the complex transformation and floppiness, then consider getting a GE-01.

If possible, get them both. It is not like a normal repaint. They have different molds & colors. So, they do not like two of the same robot. In addition, when you display them you can make each of the versions a different form and they will look nothing alike. One more thing, you can combine the parts from the two to form all kinds of crazy bots.

The biggest problem I had with the Aquarion was disconnecting the ships. There were no release buttons and since the ports are plastic and felt insanely tight, I felt like I was going to break the toy everytime I transformed it into another mode/mech. Did anyone else encounter this? The toy also felt very floppy and all you can do with it is basically just pose it standing, even then, sometimes it has problems just doing that. The ratchet joints are pretty weak and don't really help much. The diecast parts are few actually. Mostly in the front chest part of each ship, some in the joints, none in the legs or arms (all plastic). In retrospect, I wasn't really satisfied with the Aquarion (the Aquarion's on my personal "one of the worst toy purchases" list). If I had the chance to do it all over again I would've definitely skipped it and bought something else my $200. But that's just me. Hopefully Bandai will fix the problems with the joints in this reissue. BTW the GE-01 comes with an accessory meant for the GD-99, the "unlimted chained fist" attack or something(forgot the exact name of the attack at the moment) and they really did mix and match the Aquarion and the Assault type mechs in one episode. The GE-01 "Assault type" is more or less the "Mass-produced" version of the Aquarion meant for Army applications near the end of the OVA series. It didn't work out quite that well against the enemy though (cannon fodder). The main heroes never got to pilot the "Assault type" and only piloted the actual Aquarion.. if I remember right. I think there were 9(?) pilots for the actual Aquarion. Only 3 were on board each time and the remaining pilots would be on standby at HQ, ready to teleport-swap with any crew member injured in battle. Gold

The Aquarion has its problems (although mine seems to be ok), but I would still take one over any high-end non-transforming mecha on any day.

incognito. How much did you spend on your GE-01? How come you got that before GD-99. And what's up with the numbers associated with this robot. They are so varied....

BBTS just emailed me and said that Diamond did not fulfill their order of Aquarions. And so I will not get my order. BBTS said that they will never deal with Diamond again! I am so disappointed and sad right now. This is awful!

Man that totally sucks, Mazfan! The preorder at Hobbyfan.com just got listed as "preorder closed". It's supposed to ship at the end of this month but I haven't gotten an invoice yet. I just emailed them but I hope to God they didn't get shafted by Diamond, too! Has anyone else preordered their Aquarion from Hobbyfan?

Do you think that the Aquarion has been cancelled like all of the SOC re-releases?

Do you think that the Aquarion has been cancelled like all of the SOC re-releases? It's possible that only a partial re-release got authorized...like maybe the first increment got produced and the rest were cancelled. The distribution to Hobbyfan is currently "in limbo"--the store owner's exact words. He said Diamond was planning to cancel "outstanding" orders...so I have no idea how many (if any) were actually delivered or even where. At this point I haven't seen ANY Aquarions going for less than the original price...so I'm not sure it even got off the ground.
