I am debating whether to get the GD-99 Aquarion via bigbadtoystore.com for $129.99. It's not really an SOC and I don't deviate from the line (Okay, I have the BP's, Px's and a Spec). I still can't believe how inexpensive it is. However, I have also heard some bad things about it. What do you guys think?

Got mine for even less, but it's well worth it.

megatroptimus. How did you get yours for less? Where did you order it from?
Oh yeah, how much die-cast is part of it?
I am so excited.

I am debating this myself since the price has gone down considerably. Here's another preorder for $108. HobbyFan

It's worth it. It has a lot of die cast.
The reason everyone was so critical about it was because a couple of its problems could have been easily avoided with better design.

Do you think that the problems would be fixed with this newer version?
Wow, lots of die-cast and this low price. What more can you ask for? I guess better design...

I've had a preorder going at Hobbyfan for a while now. The release date just got moved back a month (July to August). BBTS's preorder also got moved back...so I think the delay's probably coming from Bandai or the distributor.
Buy yeah--considering it was originally $200+ I'd say it's worth it at least money-wise. I also like the mechanical design as well as the anime storyline, characters, etc....so to me it's worth it.

Is HobbyFan reliable? I haven't heard of them before.

Hmmmm, I have both versions of the Aquarion and I seem to remember that they both had very little diecast. Don't get me wrong, they are both well worth the $130 or so that you have to pay even if it had no diecast at all. I just want to make sure you had a good idea of what you were getting. The design is amazing and it looks great as a showpiece. However, it does have little diecast and is very complex to transform. In additon, it has to be displayed with a prop stand to help balance it. This has been the biggest complaint of most owners.

Thanks for all of the feedback you guys... Do the three robots combine as one giant robot?

I think it's worth $129. The design is amazing. It's complex to transform but that's the charm. The die cast content is quite low, this is not a SOC but something totally different. If you want die cast and muscles, buy aoshima mazinkaiser instead. This is more poetry and psychedelics...
It's not three robots combining. It's three vehicles that can combine to any of three different robots. I like two of the combinations. The Mars combination is just too fragile and strange.

Can somebody post the "Gerwalk Mode" for this Aquarion? Is this mode in the manual? If not, is it straightforward to do?

Wait a minute... The link makes it look like you can combine all 3 robots...

No, it is 3 ships that combine not 3 robots. They can make 3 different looking bots depending on which one is the head/legs/body.

Got it. This is good because I am running out of shelf space. I may decide by tomorrow.... I just spent my extra money on my iPhone.

I have both, the GD-99 and the GE-01. Unless you can understand japanese, get ready for some serious headaches when you are transforming the Aquarion - or splitting it back to the three ships for that matter...

What's the difference between the GD-99 and the GE-01?

GD-99 = normal/actual version GE-01 = attack/assault version
GE-01 has different head sculpts, a darker, more badass paint scheme and comes with different accessories.
