i'm the opposite... i think the Takara MP-01, which was a high priced collectible and still is, in my opinion has a special nostalgic preference to me similar to the japanese super robots i grew up with. it is displayed with my combining/transforming SOCs.
you should count yourself lucky that the toy, which could've been a Japanese only toy, was actually released in the US at a very affordable price, despite the minor differences.

and i want to add that since all SOCs and Transformers are all made in China, imo, this toy ranks up there in quality and build. ranks higher compared to most other plastic transformers or even in the Takara diecast BT line.

Hi Gerb, Don't get me wrong... I really like my Optimus Prime. I am so glad I got it, especially for only $50. And I can't wait to get the movie version (I went to Toys R Us, Walmart and Target to hunt for it again today). I guess being an SOC-only collector for 7 years made me too loyal to the brand. I have to convince myself that it's okay to add a non-SOC to my collection (currently OP resides outside of my Aikea all glass shelf).
On the other hand, I think that this is a good thing. I will stop collecting non-SOC's after getting the OP movie version (2 total, that's it--though I am thinking about the new Bumble Bee). Maybe this is my subconscious telling me to not branch out and save my money (I've already spent too much on my SOC collection). Plus, I really don't have room in my shelf.

$50 is awesome for that figure. I was happy I got mine when they came out (2nd version) for $67 at Walmart. I am not a Transformers fan by any means - actually - I hate the Transformers (yes "HATE THEM"). There is something about giant "living robots with no pilots" that rubs me the wrong way. However this Optimus Prime was so well accomplished I just had to have it.

What do you guy think of the Hasbro Transformers Ultimate Bumblebee? I saw it at Target for $79.99. Any feedback? Here I go again... Getting interested in non-SOC's. This is really bad becuase there are tons of Transformers stuff out there. I can get totally out of control!

Not interested in it.
1. It's out of scale with any other Movie toys. Also out of scale with your Anniversary Prime. 2. Reportedly plays music, just not any music from the movie. 3. Doesn't have the same level of detail as a Binaltech, Alternator or Masterpiece toy (these are the lines I collect, so I judge all Transformers toys by seeing if they meaure up to these) 4. Overpriced.

This is really bad becuase there are tons of Transformers stuff out there. I can get totally out of control! From what I've heard, you can pretty much forget about the Ultimate Bumblebee. I saw it in person but didn't motivate me to buy one even if its $40, let alone twice of that. While its not bad, its not impressive either. Its more detail in some area (head especially due to its big size, but there are areas that got overly simplified too, which makes it feel like more of a cheap electronic toy than a high end TF like its price suggested. Its not even as proportionally accurate compare to the $9.99 version. And I heard you can't freely posing the guy like the normal transformers toys, due to the electronics and dancing stuff. So its more of a transformable dancing statue, instead of a normal playable transformer toy. Leader Prime is pretty much the best Movie toy you can get, bar none. The only thing that comes close to it is this guy... Leader Brawl, if his look is your cup of tea.

If so, do you like it? I am debating whether to get it or not. Thanks. that's the one...and after seeing this repainted...see pic below... i was thinking of getting it too but...I keep thinking I will only collect with diecast parts... ;-)

It's amazing how mass production can really bring prices down. As I mentioned, the first time I saw the 20th Anniversary version of Optimus Prime, it was going for over $100. Now, it's only $50 at Walmart. Is this the cheapest price for this? Its the lowest I've seen. But I haven't been looking it up (since I already owned one from long ago). Oh I guess you haven't seen my older thread then ;D From Wally World too.

I have Ultimate Bumblebee. Don't expect a masterpiece-level figure, it's not. Transformation is relatively complex, very Alternator-esque. Transformation for the feet is pretty cool. Very tight in car mode. Gigantic in robot mode. Animatronics are really cool. Songs, phases, lights, moving arms/head/doors, can aim and shoot a missile automatically. In car mode, add another set of car-only sounds and lights (ignition, engine, car alarm, horn, brakes, skids, etc., depending on what you do with it). Reacts to sound and movement. The faster you roll the car, the higher is the pitch of the engine sound. Very cool. Every time I play with it, I'm discovering new features. It's really a toy meant to be play with... although I'm not sure a young kid would be able to perform the transformation correctly. Well worth the money imo. People who say it's overpriced are just looking for something else and asking Ultimate Bumblebee to be something it was never meant to be. It's like saying a Ferrari is overpriced because all you want/can afford is a used Chevrolet Aveo.

...It's like saying a Ferrari is overpriced because all you want/can afford is a used Chevrolet Aveo. I don't know... we are talking about a crowd that regular pays $100-200 for a gokin release here. Don't really think price is the issue if the toy really got the stuff. At least for me, thats the case.

Well, for a start, Ultimate Bumblebee has more gimmicks, is bigger, has animatronics and is more complex than pretty much all the SOC figures for less than half the price of Ideon, Gunbuster, Dancougar, Voltes V, etc. It only lacks die-cast. But you can't compare the two. Walker Gallia, King Joe and Xabungle don't have much to offer compared to Ultimate Bumblebee and they are in the same price range. For $80, especially when you're used to spend $100-200, you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Not that I would buy the U.S. version, but man...$25. Awesome buy. You can say that again In fact I got the last two from the shelf even though I have an old one for myself already. I couldn't resist the pricing. I recently gave them to my nephews during this TF Fever season......Man, I am GOD to them ;D

But all those lower price SOC all looks better than the Ultimate Bumblebee. ;D Joke aside, I see your point. But for Ultimate Bumblebee, I would prefer it to have a nicer paint finish instead of bare yellow plastic, a nicer robot sculpt (again, the $9.99 deluxe actually look better, minus the scaled down detail due to size). It has the electronics stuff, which attracts some crowd. But I would rather the cost was spent elsewhere. In contrary, the MP Prime with similar price range is a much plausible purchase for the money for me. Great appearance, higher quality finish, diecast content, clever engineering and transformation, more in scale with my TF collection, some light gimmicks, but no need to go all out singing and dancing "You got the power!". Unless it transforms automatically from truck mode to robot mode LOL. So point well taken, just not quite seeing it the same way on this toy.

The yellow plastic has some sparkle to it, it's just not flat yellow plastic. Also, UBB's head, arms and legs are more movie accurate than the deluxe versions.

While the Ultimate Bumblebee wins in scale, therefore better detail, I still think the deluxe is a much better looking toy. And with a decent paint job, it can be a much more attractive toy on my display. Don't mind not having the size and electronics when it only cost me $9.99 compare to $79.99. Think I'll rest my case with the below pics. Glad you enjoy the Ultimate Bumblebee.

You can't compare a custom paint job to a production toy. And if you want to go that extreme, why not do a custom paint job on Ultimate Bumblebee? Now that would make sense. By the way, Ultimate Bumblebee is mistransformed in your picture. Oh, and for the record, I own all 6 versions of movie Bumblebee.

I finally found the movie version of OP!!! Okay, so I have to go to Bangor, Maine for this (I live in Boston and Bangor is 5 hours away from here). Alright, I am not that hard core--I am here because of the in-laws. I am so glad that I didn't pay I over $60 for this! I got it at Walmart for $39.67!
Thanks for all of the Bumblee feedback. I will most probably not get it. Though it seems to have a lot gimmicks and stuff... I am afraid that it is too Robosapien for me (I have his robot and it disappoints).
This is going to be the end of my Transformer purchases--unless they are releases as SOC's.
Know what's cool about Transformer is that I now have robots for people who visit. I typically get mini heart attacks when folks handle my SOC's--especially kids. Now people can knock themselves up with my OP's (they're kidproof).
