I recently ordered a used GX-04 from Mandarake in Japan. Waited 3 weeks to get it via SAL... When I opened the box...everything was complete, BUT it appeared rusted or oxidized! The joints were not shiny and appeared to have a film over it which would not come off. Other metal pieces appeared the same. I will post pics up & post the responses from Mandarake as well. *No plans to apply CLR or other chemicals to this chogokin!

I just took a look at that item on their site. It said "used" so I guess there's no guarantee of condition other than it being a complete set. I just ordered a GX-08 Snow White Aphrodai last week. It's listed as "excellent" condition so I'll have to see what they mean by that. Anyway sorry to hear about the rust but I'm certain there's a way to treat that while leaving the chrome intact. I'll google around a bit.

Now is an excellent time to get rid of that "crazy chrome". It is your chance to apply WHITE paint and make the figure look like it should, like the anime. You know, just like AOSHIMA does with its figures... I painted the chrome parts WHITE on my GX-01 and my GX-01R and they look SWEET!!! Only thing is, they have to be primed, the paint has to be oil based AND must be air-brushed on.

;DI'm back..with google: www.google.com/search?as_q=&hl=en&num=50&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=removing+rust+from+chrome&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=images I've only gone through a few entries but it looks like the upshot of it all is to use some kind of abrasive. First try aluminum foil (shiny-side out) wrapped around your finger, dipped in coca-cola (bizzare but they say it works). There's also WD-40, but people swear by the coke option! I'm sure that more intensive measures would involve fine-grit sandpaper and some kind of chrome polish--although they say that the polish tends to dull some kinds of chrome for whatever reason, so just go with the sandpaper. You can then remove any scratches (use a light touch at first to minimize scratches) by using finer and finer grades of sandpaper. It's probably a good idea to unscrew the Grendizer to remove the inside-rust, too. If there are rusted areas under the paint you'll just have to avoid those areas and periodically re-sand the chrome when the rust creeps up again. There might actually be cleaning products on the market just for diecast car collectors so check out some die-cast car forums as well. Good luck!

Good luck! thanks for the tip, but what about the plastic pieces? it appears that the orange color rust particles have spread onto the plastic causing some off coloring. now i think about it... the grendizer smells like cigarettes. damn! the previous owner was a marlboro man! i think i'm going to post it for sale or list it on ebay after i get a response from mandarake

i usually get my orders from mandarake too and i have no problem. maybe you should also asked the condition of the toy before buying. they have been very helpful based on my experience.. maybe use cotton swab and mask the plastic areas for your coke application
**japs really love smoking hehehe.. next are koreans i think.

I think the rust can be removed from unpainted plastic with a comination of paint thinner (for models only--other kinds might dissolve the plastic) and scraping with an object that's not too sharp. For painted plastic I think rubbing alchohol would be safer.
There's also the possibility that the coke could work on those areas, too (using a cloth instead of foil).
Anyway, these are just suggestions without actually getting my hands on the Grendizer. It might be a lot harder or impossible in reality so I guess it's your call.
Good luck if you sell it and keep us updated on Mandarke's response (I'm curious to see how they handle this kind of situation).

The pics: The e-mails: Wednesday, October 10, 2007 7:34 PM Subject : Re[2]: (Order ID:112292) [Order Modification] Mandarake Online Shopping Dear junktea1 We are sorry for your disappointment. But the item was sold as Used item with lower price at that time. The parts are complete and only the parts were detached and used. We should have sent you picutres if you were so keen about the condition. We could not think about that. We apologize for that... Best regards, eriko kurosaka --------------------------------- Wednesday, October 10, 2007 10:48 PM Hello, junktea1 Please send us the photo of the damaged part. We regarded it as only used item and did not think it was damaged or parts-missing item. So basically we cannot accept your claim, but if any parts are damaged, we have to consider of other methods. We will wait for the photos. Thank you. Eriko Kurosaka --------------------------------------- 10/22/07 Hello, junktea1 Thank you for the photos. Unfortunately, it may be hard for the details to be shown on the pictures, but we could not see the rust well. We cannot consider it as bad condition. So we cannot accept returning. We do not want to be mean, but it is hard for us to do something for an uncertain matter. If you have clearer pictures of the damage, please send it to us. Best regards, Eriko Kurosaka -------------------------------------- 10/28/07 Thank you for the photos. We will take up this issue and will reply you back. But meantime, if you are looking for any other items, please let us know. We will look for them, and could send you with much discount instead of partical refund. Best regards, Eriko Kurosaka ------------------------------------ 10/31/07 We are afraid that the partial refund for your previous order was difficult. The item is actually the goods we sell to customers. So as long as the customer check the condition before purchase, there would not have been a problem. If you could agree on 3000yen discount on your next order, we would appreciate it. Sorry for the disappointment and the trouble. Thank you. Eriko Kurosaka ==================================So basically they gave me a 30K Yen discount on my next purchase I decided to list it on ebay: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190168720115&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DSelling

Damn....so I guess anything from Mandarake that's "used" is basically custom-fodder.

Man, I'm going to try to win the auction. If I do, I'll give it the Anime color treatment on those rusted chrome parts and will post pictures after it is done. I hope I do win it...

This stuff is amazing. I have used it for years, and I would not hesitate to use it on my toys. It works well on any metal or plastic surface, and can even be used (with great caution) on paint. I used to use it to polish my stone carvings as well. Simichrome PolishJWM

Simichrome PolishJWM well we might just see that grendizer circulating on ebay again after being cleaned. actually i've never owned a grendizer before. upon receipt, it was a let down, not because of the rust, but because i thought it would be a lot cooler. it reminded me of a mazinger. i'll save my $$$ for godmarz in 08'

I honestly disagree.. IMHO SOC Grendizer (Complete with all speizer) is the MFUN KING of all MODERN GOKIN..... But I have to agree that all the "HERO" Robots from Go Nagai are Mazinger like, even the upcomng Groizer X has a robot mode very mazinguesque. But Grandizer is hands down the cooler character, the cooler mecha and teh cooler gokin.
