Mazingagoo, I'm just curious, what is it that you don't like about the new Jeeg? Is it the design or is it because you were hoping for the original Jeeg, or both maybe? yeah, it is nothing personal, really. I just don't like the new jeeg It does not look like Jeeg at all.

I can understand that. It's definitely a contemporary look compared to the classic look of the original Jeeg.

Well wouldn't it be kind of boring to have two of the exact same robot as the main characters? I know the old Jeeg didn't show up till episode 12 of the new series but if that had been planned from the beginning it'd actually hurt the new series to have the main character's version look like the classic one.
As for the SOC... I find it surprising that they're doing the new version before the classic, as SOC's have thus far gone with classic first, and I hope they do both versions, but I'm not opposed to them doing the new one first.

I don't see what there is not to like about this Jeeg?? It makes me wonder if people didn't like Great Mazinger back in the day because he was new. from what i gather though, great mazinger, getter robo g, and voltes v (even though they were the improved concepts) wasn't as well received as there predecessors mazinger z, getter robo and combattler v. they were kinda deemed as somewhat of a "rip off".. i guess japan really likes "originals" much better. me? i actually like mazinger z better than mazinkaiser. though i prefer shin getter than plain getter.

The new jeeg doesnt feel like a jeeg, i mean, a guy a motor cycle being the head of the jeed just sucks, jeeg have always been about a cyborg becoming the head, that was the fun part of the show, the new jeeg shows nothing and the main character looks so stupid compared with original, i liked the show but i like the original one better.

Lancerx, do you mean you like the old main character better, or the look of the old Jeeg better? I don't mind the whole motorcyle thing. To me it's not that much different than parking the hover pilder in Mazingers head.

the old jeeg was short, chubby and had a snake looking face to him. The new jeeg is just all wrong Shame on the character designer...

I am on the boat favoring the Old Jeeg too. Not to the extreme I hate the new one, just think the original is more 'original' with the funky Cyborg morphing head (which is the most memorable part of it from childhood days), rounder simpler shapes with a very strong wrestler feel (Jeeg Breaker anyone?). The new one, while its obvious having a lot of homage paid to the Old, looks too spikey and busy, and of course with no more morphing. Its modern, but lost most of the 'good parts' of the Old design, rather than improving on it. So to me, its more of an inferior modern version.
A good comparison is Tetsujin 28 Original vs. T-28 FX. Can't say the T-28 FX is nicer than the original, even if it has a lot more 'stuff' added.

I was pretty revolted by Giant Robo's last redesign---Agghhhh!!. For new Jeeg, not as much. I think as a standalone design---without classic Jeeg as a yardstick....it actually looks pretty cool. As a figure I think it would be worth a spot on my shelf. Of course it would be even cooler with classic Jeeg next to it.

In contrary, I feel that Mazinkaiser is a good "Modern" version of Mazinger Z, as well as Shin Getter of Getter Robo (Shin Getter still kept its morph!). They are more updated, has a bit more detailed, but maintain the classic look and feel. And so happen they are all in the Go Nagai robot family. If Shin Jeeg is rounder, less busy, and kept the morph, it'll probably attract more Classic fans, like myself.

I'm still in with the old Jeeg, the Shin JEEG looks like new version of Grandizer to me. The only "remake" versions that I really like from Dynamic characters is Shin Getter & Getter Black (yeah I know Black Getter didn't exist in 70's show, but this guy really rocks!). I found there's no reason for me to fall in love with this new Jeeg. Better keep my money for the original one. still waiting for the original Jeeg to come ,

Just like 99.99% of the entire world population I prefer the original Jeeg.
The point for me is:
1) SOC has historically portrayed the classic versions of the robots.
No Mazinkaiser, No Shin Getter, No Neo Getter
2) We all know the Jeeg rights are owned by Takara (see "competitor").
3) We also know that Jeeg is the last classic Go Nagai Super Robot not done by Bandai ( With the exception of Groizer, but he is too secondary)
Thus I am almost sure they are producing a Shin Jeeg because they simply CANNOT make classic Jeeg.
That pretty much tells me that I must get SOC Jeeg.

Dos takara still exist? if so, why are they making us suffer so much?

Dos takara still exist? if so, why are they making us suffer so much? The continued life of the Transformers toyline would certainly seem to indicate that, but that is a good question, I wonder why they haven't released any new Jeeg product in conjunction with the new show if they have the rights. Also, why didn't they jump on the merchandising rights to the new show? It could be possible that SOC is making this new Jeeg while the show is popular, and could be planning to do a classic version if/ when the merchandising right become available?

its also possible they are under discussion. Going through legal channels does take time. Especially amoung giants... or it is possible they had a disscussion and couldn't come to a agreement. Which would really suck balls. Although there has been some toys I recall that weren't made by Takara.. which in itself is a good sign.

I don't know if the old Jeeg's license is exclusively to Takara though (sure they still exist..as TakaraTomy). Not that long ago, Kaiyodo did a small gashapon size super robot series including Jeeg. Also, a few years back, Yujin did a Jeeg box set (small size PVC figure with ALL the Jeeg parts, but limited articulation) which I still have. So I don't think Takara is the only one that can do Jeeg's merchandise. In fact, they barely touched them, other than re-releasing the old vintage magnetic Jeeg a couple times here & there. So its really hard to tell. And most likely they would have exploited the license to make some cool Jeeg products when the show just came out. But they didn't. So really don't know...

I was hunting around for for the Jeeg Yujin Gasaphon with accessories. They look great but people want so much money for them (as much as $100.00, not including shipping) Most sellers are from Europe.
I think TakaraTomy is focusing their energy where they can get the most bang for the buck. Transformers merchandises sell themselves. Might as well cater to the largest demographic

This is what an SOC of the old Jeeg should look like and be able to do: I know it is just a kit, but tell me that isn't awesome looking!!!
