Now and then I tally the total cost of my SOC collection--cause I am a massochist. I believe that I have way passed the $5,000 mark. Kinda scary but we paid more for our Italy trip last year and that vacation was only for three weeks.
It has been close to a decade since I have started my SOC obsession. My robots have given me tons of joy, new friends (real and in virtual space), taken away stress and my collection has enhanced my work. Overall, the $5,000+ has been worth it.
How about you guys? How do you feel about your SOC investment? Have you guys spent about the same amount? Less or more (just your SOC's and not your other collectibles)? Thanks.

I haven't tallied the value of my hauls since day one.
But, man, the first time I reboxed them and placed them in storage (in boxes clearly marked with my full name and Do-Not-Remove signs) I instructed my landlord not to let anyone near them.
...a week later the dumbazz scheduled a Trash Day Cleanup. I got home from work late that evening to find some dude he hired about to haul trash away in his pickup--- and My boxes were in that pickup! I got all my stuff back alright, minus my rollerblades and cordless drill. And I broke a couple knuckles from not draggin the dude out of his truck fast enough. The scene was ugly, and I was so mad. Since then my landlord never messed with my stuff ever again.
Lesson#1: Only I am responsible for my toys. And I shoulda known better.

i also try not to think about it, but i try to check current prices of some of my toys every now and then. since i dont have much space at my apartment, most of them are still in boxes. i think im in my 3-4k plus(give or take a few hundred) in my 2 and a half yrs of collecting. ^_^

i just did a litte adding up and found that if you buy every single one from gx 01r to gx 40 it would cost you around $3810 usd. its just the normal color one. extra that i have gx 05r($100) and gx 05b(120), gx 01rg (80), the angel ladies (4 x 60= 240) over all about $4350 + or - $100 to $200 for shipping. so i am not at $5000 for Soc yet.
Was it worth it? well... Yea. now a day $4000 dont buy much.. maybe a old used car.

Yeah, my SOCs alone would tally over $5K and you are not prone to get that now should you decide to sell them of ebay. Put it this way, if you smoked, drank, partied away that $5K you wouldn't get anything at all for it right now. Whereas, in spending it buying SOCs you'd get a large part of it back in residuals right now should you decide to sell on ebay This is where freaking re-issues always bother me, I hate them. But that's just me.

I went over the $5,000 mark because I started to buy the PX's and the Specs as well. Though I am an SOC purist... I did succumbed and purchased the other variants that I have mentioned.
I still consider myself as an SOC completist (color versions only). I have from GX01 ot GX40 (sans three of them, but I might get them).

But were it not for those darn re-issues we'd be able to get at least a 100% of what we paid [including the shipping we paid]

Re-Issues are the wallet-killers, sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes. Makes me wonder that If the manufacturers had planned more carefully and gotten it all right the First time, then there wouldn't have been a need all those for re-issues. ;D

Same here. I didn't think much about spending the money because at the time there were no reissues and the value of S.O.C. kept increasing. Now I wish I hadn't gone out of my way in acquiring some of them. It's not even worth preordering S.O.C. anymore because they are more plentiful now and it also seems lately that the price of them drop after a month or so.

I'm learning to wait several months after a new figure is released. That way I can study it through reviews by folks who already have it; and if I decide its what I want then I might catch a good deal for it somewhere. By that time, the new figure would be available at the dealers and stores, and on ebay as well. I apply this strategy specificly towards the figures I'd really want, so as to avoid the "Gotta Have It" bug.

Don't know how much money I've spent on my collection, let me think... more or less 1200 euros (900 dollars)... I dont regret any euro I've spent in my precious figures...
My precious, my treasure... (try to read it with Gollum's voice... he he he)

I passed that 5k mark long time ago.... so much so that I just had to stop thinking about it... Most important is that I am having fun.

It doesn't really matter how much I spent on my collection as long as my family has no shortcomings and all dues are payed for. all together it will be around 5k in $s, and with my vinyl maybe 7k. though that sum never will add up to the joy and fun I have with my collection, that's simply priceless

I've passed the 5K mark awhile back. I try not to think about the exact costs. But just like what most people here wrote-it had given us hours and hours of enjoyment.

hmm my first SOC is the Tetsujin 28, second is the Baikangfu, third will be the Godmarz (1 for display 1 for collection). I think the total is a little over 500.
However, if we're talking about Godaikin collection. I think Just the Tetsujin and Combattra alone cost over 5K easy, which is hard on new collector like me (just started collecting couple months ago),
