Hi. I have a question about reissues 1997 die cast the voltron III. I got one today and found that the quality of this re issues is very bad. I remember the one I had back in the 80s were a much better quality. All the accessories are poorly made and some of the joints aren’t smooth. The die cast and paint job looks very cheap. I am very dissatisfied with this one. Are all the reissue 1997 voltron III in this poor quality or I just gotten a bad copy?

Hi Wilson,
I have heard that with the Trendmasters re-issues the first release had a better quality and a bit more diecast than the later Trendmasters releases.
In general, though, it is a cheaply made toy without the precision of the old Godaikins. Then, of course, the Popy boxed versions had some small differences and were excellent.
Oh, and the Matchbox versions were quite nice, but withouth the weapons.

I have heard that with the Trendmasters re-issues the first release had a better quality and a bit more diecast than the later Trendmasters releases. Actually, only the first batches had any diecast in it. After that, Trendmasters moved to an all plastic version. I've never known anyone who had the diecast Trendmasters version, but it would seem to me that yours is probably a fair representation of the general quality, since these were not made for long. Sorry to hear it, man.

Well the Chogokin version would obviously be the highest quality, but I think you can still pick up a GoDaiKin version for roughly the same price as a matchbox, if you're lucky on ebay. That's probaby a higher quality, and definately would not be lower.

A fairly mint Matchbox version of the Voltron can be found on ebay (and won) for approx $100.00 - $120.00 or so...with box and instructions intact. The GoDaiKin GoLion will probably run you about $400.00 -$450.00 or so in the same shape.
As for the diecast Trendmasters Voltron...oooooo...it's bad. For less money and better quality then the Trenmaster diecast version......you are better off spending $50.00 to $75.00 on the Taiwan LionBot. This is not a great toy....but better than the Trendmasters one.

Ahh, here's the thread I was looking for! A fairly mint Matchbox version of the Voltron can be found on ebay (and won) for approx $100.00 - $120.00 or so...with box and instructions intact. No....it really is worth the extra to get the matchbox (Popy DX) version...The Lionbot is ok...much better than the Trendmasters.... but not near as nice as a real Popy DX/GoDaikin GoLion or Matchbox Voltron
