"Cool Junk" is a new plastic toy line by Topps Toys featuring large vehicles, including a helicopter, supposedly made from "junk" (old phone booth, discarded toxic storage tanks, etc). Included in the line are three robots, also born of detritus. Ditched Man, for instance, has a satellite dish for a head, a broken TV screen for a chest, a radio for a pelvis, and, his left foot is a laptop computer. Past Gas is comprised of old automotive parts. Lock Jaw is a junk arrangement made to look like T-Rex. These figures don't do anything once assembled. Check out Ditched Man and Locked Jaw plus a few of the vehicles at the Topps Toys web site (you have to scroll sideways to see the selection). Go to: www.toppstoys.com/ Unfortunately, Ditched Man looks much more colorful and dynamic on the page than the toy itself, which I found carded and hanging on the pegs at Target. Unlike the screen shots, Ditched Man and his fellow robots are much smaller than the vehicles and are the size of small action figures: 5-6 inch range. It is ironic that a toy company manufactures toys that look like they are made from junk, saving children the challenge of rolling off the couch, finding their own junk, and patching together a unique robot creation.

the idea would have been truly novel if they were really made from junk.
I wonder if these sell well?
