whatever happened to made in Japan???!!! i compare the quality of the new made in china chogokins to the old school ones and i feel ripped off for having bought this made in china piece... yeah, i know because of rising costs of manufacturing in japan and globalization shifted the manufacturing out to china~ and i know it cost them so little to make the things... they're making sucha killing on collectors like us... i recently bought a turn A gundam from the local collector's show... i take it home and take it out only to find the right arm of the gundam to be completely loose. the shoulder flaps didn't even stay... i took it back to exchange it and guess what happened to the next three boxes i opened? yup... all the arms where loose or worse, broken off completely from the body! where is the QC in all this!!!?!! the toy was $50... i felt it was only worth $10.... i felt SO ripped off... strangely, i bought daimos for around two smackerooos (yes... im a sucker! ) and felt that it was the deal of the century!!! bought several other vintage chogokins and spent some really shiney pennies and i felt every cent of it was worth it... while i didn't feel the same when i got my hands on the SOC series.... *sigh* oh well... i guess theres really not much i can do about it... at least now, i dont need to beg mommy and daddy to buy it for me~

Well, you answered your own question there dude I feel your pain mind you. I grew up on toys that were "made in japan" and it pains me that the toys are made somewhere else. But economics dictate that our new toys be made in China for us to even afford them.

I feel your pain GhoSStRyda... -sigh- The funny thing is though that people in the US used to gripe about Made In Japan. And before that Europeans used to gripe about things made in USA. I happen to think China's quality has DRASTICALLY improved over the last 5 years. Turn A was produced at a bad time. I've also heard of second quality toys being sold to Hong Kong and first quality Chinese toys / chogokin going to Japan. You may have recieved a "seconds" toy. Chinese toy quality will be up to par soon. Just beware of the pre 2000's toys. Sorry to hear about the purchase. -Ed P.S. I miss the HAND PAINTED quality of the really early toys. Like a hand painted Mazinga face on GA-01. -snif-

true, what happens is, toys that did not pass quality standards are reported to the Japan companies as "destroyed" but instead of being destroyed, they are repackaged and shipped to HK thru backdoor. Thats what makes buying from HK sucks! There are some cheap 1/60 VF-1Ds up for sale now in HK missing thier sticker sheets! I was once offered a couple of cheap GX-13 Dancougars from Singapore but my Japan supplier immediately warned me of them being backdoor goods! dayam!! i was not aware of the "second" quality goods from HK... this will certainly stop me from buying from those places, even if the pricing is inticing...

I'm waiting for my first SOC pieces to be delivered, and the complaints about quality make me nervous. On the other hand, I have a couple of DX Gundams that are Chinese plastic and, while they're not like the 70's vintage classics, they are very cool shelf pieces in their own right. I have them next to the PG model kits. Only a robo-junkie could tell the difference. I remember well when "made-in-Japan" was a synonym for breakable junk. JWM

. I remember well when "made-in-Japan" was a synonym for breakable junk. JWM[/quote I often heard my dad saying "ugh, made in japan!" when I was a wee little kid. How ironic, now he insists on getting tools and machines from Japan! On the otherhand, I always liked toys from Japan Made in China is just ok with me, as long as the quality is not compromised. So far, my SOCs are pressed with Made in China. And the bots are just as very well made.

I have to admit that the I would prefer if all the toys read, "Made in Japan." But, then again, I still remeber (by the way, the 78 is not the year I was born in) when Made in Japan was a no-no ( I guess it came from Buy American Only zealots). I very sincerely believe that the quality of many of the toys made in China has significantly improved, ie, Godaikin repros, and some of the SOC robots. Nevertheless, as long as the robots are very detailed, made out of diecast (although, a complaint I have with the SOCs) with good quality paint and stickers, I am for it. Let's face it, many of the repros from China or Taiwan and many of the SOCs are a HECK of a lot better in quality and detail than the American made versions. Who knows, maybe in a few years, we'll be accepting the phrase, Made in China.
