*********on the web************ A Coca-Cola promotion in Hong Kong featuring a robot toy adorned with symbols that look like swastikas has been condemned, and pulled from shelves. As if Hong Kong didn't have enough problems already. Perhaps the goof emerged from the fact that some versions of this ancient symbol were part of iconography in various Asian cultures, long pre-dating any Nazi uses -- regardless, the 'bots are history. "Rabbi Yakkov Kermaier, of Ohel Leah Synagogue, says it is probably an honest mistake, but he's called toy sets featuring the Robocon characters unacceptable. One character, the robot-like Robowaru, has two swastikas on its chest and can be bought in the UK for around 2.60 pounds with any purchase of six bottles of Coke. The figurines stand on small plastic pedestals with Coca-Cola logos on them...Coca-Cola says the figurines were made according to the original Robowaru design, but a spokeswoman declined any other immediate comment." its sad that the swastika has such a bad rep due to the nazis... so many people dont know the real story behind it... correct me if im wrong, i believe the buddhist swastika points counter clockwise and the nazi ones point clockwise?

Indeed, it is Buddhist......-sigh-. Ignorance turns into intolerance instead of education.

The swastka appears in many ancient cultures. The Celts, and the Native Americans also used it. Oddly enough one can still occaisionally see tile work from the Art Deco period done in swastika motifs. What you will notice, is whether the design rotates left or right, it it always used on the square, with the arms vertical and horizontal. Hitler twisted it so that the overall design sits on point in a diamond shape, and the center forms an"X" instead of a cross. JWM

It looks to me like they got the swastika wrong on the new issue. The old one is traditional Budhist. What do you want to bet those things are going to be hot as a pepper on the collector's market. JWM

It also unfortunately appears that the original intent of the characters on the real toy aren't necessarily swastikas, but rather look more like a throwing blade (at least to my eyes), not entirely unlike the one from I believe the movie was called Krull... Anyone else think this too? Look at how the bent part of the arms looks more curved, like a blade?
