See if you agree..... I predict that E-bay's deals and steals and INVENTORY will wither away. My prediction is that e-bay will become like garage sales; the best products are sold first and then junk remains. To me it appears collectors in our hobby are keeping the best and the quality of the products for sale is diminishing. Look at Godaikin supplies. Finally, I see more graft, theft, abuse, and general corruption. My prediction is that we will look back on the late 90's and early 2000's on E-bay as a very special blip in time and a great (but soon lost) opportunity. -Ed

The more theft and abuse then it will probably be that way.

Follow-up.
My hope is that our BBS community will be a better way to buy, sell, and trade. We can recognize seedy characters and deal with friends ;D

Cool theory.
The one factor you're not taking into account though is that with most collectors, they reach a point in their lives where they "outgrow" their collections and resell the entire thing on ebay. Granted, this happens less with Japanese robot collectors, but hype fads like Transformers, Power Rangers, He-Man, Thundercats, Star Wars, etc, are mostly followed by people who will eventually get tired of owning them. Honestly, I think the worst was when ebay first started, when no one was sure what anything was worth, everyone was selling broken garbage from their garages, and MIB items weren't surfacing yet.
All the same, I DO agree that ebay cannot last. I thinkl the lack of legal protection afforded to buyers and sellers is going to ultimately be their downfall, as will their ever increasing fees. Also, ebay's business is thoroughly dependent upon postal rates and regulations. An abrupt change in these (especially considering recent anthrax and other terrorisim scares) could easily destroy ebay. The current economy isn't helping things either.
Either way, I agree. Ebay can't last like this forever, so let's enjoy it while we've got it.

i do agree! imagine yourself selling something expensive or something rare, then, along comes this deadbidder or this multi neg feedback bidder causing problems! Who wants to sell now. I experienced this deadbeat bidders many times, i can't give neg feedback cos they threaten to do the same thing and what's the point of giving neg if most of his feedbacks are neg already. the main reason why this people bid is to win high and give you neg feedback! In the end you wasted time and money.... also the next time you sell the same item, nobody wants to bid on it , cos they think you're some kinda fraud..Even though Ebay has this safe harbour option, there are still a lot more deadbeat bidders out there!

i think that is why we see more and more disscussion boards to all kinds of collections, because people just can't be trusted in Ebay anymore. i now buy, sell and trade most of my GI Joe on discussioin board for GI Joe. 3 nights ago, there was a taiwan made Computron (whole set) for sell, and as soon as i place a bid, i got this letter from another bidder telling me to "keep away" saying the item is his etc, etc. Although he was a bit rude at the beginning, but after a few exchanged of Email and we both bid like crazy on the item, we came to a sence that this game of collecting can be played peacefully. so i pulled out my bids (i think the seller will hates me for what i did) and i congradulate him. my point is that in Ebay, we are dealing with people all over the world. we just don't know what's the other end up to. i used to get so pi$$ed off at ebay at china and yahoo at japan, because most of their sellers don't trade oversea. but after the ebay incident i now understands why so is ebay dying out? NO, because now ebay is not a place to sell the unwanted, but a place to sell new goods. toys are just a small section of ebay, the rest of ebay sells mainly NEW products at lower price, that is why ebay will survive for awhile.

OH I agree ebay is not dead and will not be that way. But I happen to think that the supply high quality items selling at a deal will go away. I think that quality will go down and prices will go up on average.
