That is quite a haul Josh! I liked the Panda-Z bit from TBDX, and I already ordered one from HLJ. It looks fun. You mentioned you got the GX-07 OVA Mazinger, can you tell us anything about it, maybe a quick review? I've been meaning to get it but am torn between waiting for the GX-01R and getting the 07 from my supplier, which he already has in stock. Thanks

the GX-07 is a nice piece. Different enough from the GX-01 to warrant its purchase, IMHO. it has a nice tilting chest feature, but has no chest missile or scrander.
I can do pictures later if you like.
Also, the all black limbs are nice, and the white pilder is a little different.

Wow- that sounds like a load of fun. Were any of the SOC EVA's on the shelf there? Even if it weren't for the toys, Japan is one of the few places I'd really like to visit. I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say. JWM

Hey Josh!
How much does airfare cost to Japan?
Is it really worth flying over there with ebay and Yahoo Japan?
Is it also worth going to China after the Sars scare is over with?
Thanks!

my suggestion is before going to Japan, you haveto plan everything out like location of toy shops and your budget for toys. know a bit of nihongo like asking basic questions(very important) if you have certain questions that you want to translate to Japanese, I could help you out. Make sure to bargain with them (except larger shops like mandarake etc) Some collectors have their own small shop so only true collectors know this, so ask them if they can give you info about other shops. sometimes they sell at a low price and will trade. Tokyo is expensive for toys. Try Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe. They also have regular toy shows and stuff. Going to Japan is expensive cos public transpo is expensive lodging is expensive. Get the best deals you can get from your travel agent before going there. When it comes to toys, You'll be very happy!!!You'll find a lot you don't see on Ebay some can be very expensive though so you need to canvas around first before buying. I go there once every 2 years not only to buy toys but to visit my relatives so my accomodation is free but i still find it expensive to move around Japan.

JWM - no EVA yet. The only SOC I saw for sale was GX-01r, GX-02r, GX-04s, GX-06, 07 and the ladies (except minerva). rednecktex - Airfare is insanely cheap right now. Round trip from boston to narita is $490! Check out www.gatewaylax.com for cheap ass airfare to tokyo. And is it worth it? if you are just going to go toy shopping - no. You will get there and quickly realize that you didnt bring enough money. but if you are into Japan as a country, it is a great trip. After 3 days you kind of get toy-overload. Dont know much about china, sorry. But noizytoyz is right. plan everything out, know some basic japanese (ikura desu ka?, Sumimasen, wakarimasen, toire wa nan desu ka?), basic numbers etc.. it will help a lot. Having some native guides helps a lot.

Thanks for the info Josh and noizytoyz! ;D
Have to get permission from the wife first and 3 kids first!
Do you get better prices in the stores than Yahoo and Ebay though?
To make up for the airfare and buses. ;D

good question, if you have enough money for the trip, make sure you buy stuff from toy shows cos you can bargain. Mandarake in Osaka station has a lot of cheap chogokins. I saw a mib getta base for 18000yen, this cost like $350 on ebay from the last auction that ended few weeks ago. They also have Wingman mib for only 10000 yen. Suggestion bring the biggest lugage you can bring, Toys takes up a lot of space , so keep in mind that you'll be tempted to buy a lot, cos its like a toy paradise. I buy only loose and small boxed robots. Cos its hard to bring them over. When you hand carry some chogokins, make sure you don't bring any sharp metal toy parts, cos they might take it away from you or ask you to mail it to your address. Canadian customs is very strict about this so better put them inside your lugage, i dunno customs rules in the US though, cos my stop over is Vancouver then osaka. Good luck! Japan is a nice place esp japanese gardens and sites, you'll enjoy it!
