Alpha 2 has Voltes, Combattler and Daimos. Very good game for Voltes and Daimos, but Combattler's pretty crappy in it. Daimos has some very cool animations. He got nerfed in MX though unfortunately.
But MX has Dragonar! (kinda off subject huh)

But MX has Dragonar! (kinda off subject huh) its not off topic. Atleast this game has getter robo dragon in it and grendizer!! Nice to see that raxaphaleon(forgive the spelling) and neon genesis are playing well together, dispite fans of neo claiming that rax is a pale imitation.

Since my consols are not modified i was wondering...
What are your thoughts on the gameboy advance versions of robot wars.. im thinking about picking up one.. but im not sure which!! its nice that the GBavance will play japanese games without mods.

I've played A and R but not D or Original Generation. R came out after A, and has some nice features not in A. I enjoyed A's storyline, original characters, series and balance much more though. R has Dendoh, the Nadesico movie (yech) and Gundam X, besides a lot of cool stuff in lots of games. A has the Nadesico tv series, Dragonar, Daimos, 08th ms team, G Gundam and 0079 though. I haven't played D, but I know it has God Mars, Macross 7 and The Big O.
If you plan on playing more than one of them, I suggest you play A first, then one of the others, because if you play one that lets you cancel animations first and then play A in which you can't, it might drive you crazy, but if you're not used to that function it isn't bad. The animations for the gameboy games load much faster than the ps and ps2 ones anyway.
Also, if you don't read japanese you could try consulting the translation faqs at gamefaqs- the dialogue is condensed but they still get you through the story. My brother found them very helpful when he played A and R.
