Whats your opinion? when buying a toy for collection, would you rather pay a more expensive ones with the box and a few or complete accessories or buy a toy even without the box but is still good for display, and still good for display?

that depends.
i paid for my MP-01 and inspected it to make sure i get a good unit and i still keep it in mint condition. then i traded a second unit (american edition) without a box for play.
BUT
if i have to choose for a minty boxed toy from a cheaper second hand unit. ill choose for the second hand unit. gives me more bang for my buck and i would not regret playing with it as i got the toy cheap.

I'd be perfectly happy with an unboxed/incomplete figure, so long as it had everything I wanted and there were no noticeable flaws.

it depends.....boxed always....UNLESS...and this is the only case when I buy UN-boxed is to complete a certain accesories that I am missing from the boxed toy...this is the only the worst case senario is when I buy unboxed sometimes...and as soon as I get the part that I need...I will resell it within 24 hours.

I would definitely pay more for a boxed figure - especially from a forum such as eBay where you're getting amateur-graded product... one can only assume that someone who kept the box was also someone who kept decent care of their toy robot as well... probably more than someone who didn't care to keep the box. But that's just an opinion and it's all relative (not all toys merit my attention based on whether or not they have their original packaging, of course).

It depends...it's better to have 10 DX loose than one boxed in my opinion^_^ I usually collect boxed toys but sometimes I bought some loose items waiting to fins some boxed and than upgrade

Frankly,if I could get a good discount for items that are mint but without its box e.i. store display I'd seriously go for that. My cost would be lower & I wouldn't feel guilty throwing away the box. The only reason I keep the box in the 1st place is if I decide to sell the toy somewhere down the road to some collector who buys into the ambiance of the item being somehow better just because it has its box.

I always go for boxed.
BUT..
without a box is certainly the way to go as far as price.

Not boxed !
I collect Toys, not boxes...
Empty boxes look the same as toys in boxes most of the time, so what is the interest ?
To me, toys are more "alive" with no boxes. ;D

thanks for all your opinion, the reason i asked is i got a voltes V DX from ebay not too long ago with a few accessories inlcuded, it was pretty nice for the age and wear and tear of the toy, so i decided to look for the boxes and some of the accessories. the boxes offered to me was around C5 to c6.5, thats from what i saw on the picture. do you think its worth the hassle in getting the boxes?

My LeReve Mazinger-Z arrived unboxed (and Very Carefully bubblewrapped), It arrived in such terrific shape that I swear it could've been Brand New.
Maz was loosed, and I was really happy with it- even now as I type this, He's standing by my monitor-- --I'd pick him up and put him in a different pose, or play with the hoverPilder for a while (I magnetized it so it won't fall out of his crown). I plan to fabricate some IronCutter blades and a Scrander wing set for him... ...I couldn't do all that with a boxed toy, if I had ever planned to sell it.
Along with my LeReve MZ, I also got a RAH Mazinger with its original box. I won't sell this figure. I kept the box because of the Japanese writing on the frontside; plus, it came with Japanese instructions inside the box. This adds to my excitement for the figure. I have it loosed, standing on a shelf, with my first-collection Mazinger stuff, on display. I saved the box for sentimental and nostalgic value. This Maz figure will also get fabbed accessories.
Some other figures I have (non-Mazinger) are in blisters which are torn (I bought an Astroboy, and a Gundam SD from my local Big Lots store, thru clearance)... ...I can toss the blisters, and keep the cards as reference to other figures in their line.
Other miscellaneous figures I have were bought from thrift-stores... their boxes were torn, I tossed them out.
I guess Boxed, or Unboxed is a matter of personal taste and reasoning.

I'm still looking for some no box SOC to show up on Ebay. You see those once in awhile. But the problem is that even on ebay the no box are still expensive. Last l look, I remember seeing a used Mazinger with bids close to 60. I mean for 60, I might as well add 20 more and get it new with box. Now if someone want to sell me a used GX-01 for 40 bucks without all the accessories, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Just so I can have a SOC Mazinger Z to play around with and I wouldn't care if breaks. Now with new toys, some of us wear gloves to handle them, some of us place them in display case, nevered to be played with. I'll buy loose if there is more than 50% difference. Otherwise, might as well get New with box.

No I really don’t think it is worth it to pursue the box or the non-essential accessories. If you wanted a MIB one to begin with you shouldn’t have gone for the loose. It’ll cost you more to get the useless accessories and the box. Did you see someone was trying to peddle the pen that came with the Volt in box V 5 for a $100US What the hell? I also saw the Ultraman booklet with tin cover [which came with the Volt in box] selling for $125US. I also saw some ultraman monster erasers going for $60US [which also came with the Volt in box]. With those 3, your already up $285 on top of your initial V5 loose purchase price. Wouldn’t you rather have another 2-3 different modern chogokins for that kind of money? Its not like we’re in short supply of great new releases, nor are we in short supply of different types of other vintage you could get for that kind of dough [if you’re into the vintage thing] I just don’t get collectors who’d spend that kind of $$$ for accessories/boxes that really have little or nothing to do with the bot or the anime other than it came in the same box. To each is own I guess

i default to a boxed toy (easier storage and sometimes the box is cool too) but if it is a ahrd to get piece and the only problem is that it is missing its box, then i go for it.
