I was just curious about something. This is a message board about Japanese robots, but is it mainly about giant robots or do you talk about the human sized ones as well? I was thinking, mainly about Rockman or Megaman as he's called in the states. Sometimes I hear people say he was more or less ripped off from Astro Boy, and I've been watching the new Astro Boy series on DVD for a while now. I gotta say there are similarities. I remember when the Astro Boy toys were out, some of them were kinda creepy. I almost bought one or two, but they never had the articulation that I want my figures to have. Now they're all gone. I have plenty of Megaman figures, both imports and US. It would be interesting if they had some sort of Astro Boy/Rockman cross over. Hehe. So does anyone here collect Rockman/Megaman stuff? Do you prefer the import stuff or toys from the US market like Jazwares? There was a time when Jazwares was going to do some new toys from Megaman Zero and Megaman Legends, but I haven't heard anything else about that in almost a year. Meanwhile, in Japan they're working on the new version of Rockman EXE called Ryuusei no Rockman, using the DX Rockman.EXE figure bodies that have so much articulation it makes me drool... Hehe. But I would love to see figures from Rockman/Megaman ZX done. I wish they would have used that DX body style to make more Rockman figures from other series. Legends would have been perfect. Instead the models they used for Rockman Dash were limited. I still got me one though. Plus the gashapon figures that came with pieces of Rockman to build. Sometimes I miss those old Bandai model kits and seeing new ones on the import toy list. Ahhh... the old days.

Heh, cool! A fellow Rockman/Mega Man fan!
Actually, I think there are a couple of main reasons why he doesn't get more attention on these boards:
1. Robot Japan is mostly about larger-than-human robots or vehicles. Mega Man simply falls outside the main interests of this board.
2. Mega Man toys and models have tended to be of disappointing quality. There are exceptions (I own a couple of them), but most of them have elicited an "Are you kidding me?!" response from discerning collectors.

I bought a Megaman-X 10" figure last year (on sale at CVS Pharmacies, in my area)... I like its design, except for the elbow joints... ...I wish it would keep its pose, but the "rubbery" elbow jointage doesn't help much. ...I don't like how the arm "droops" like that: The impressions beneath his feet read: "(c)2004 Capcom Co Ltd. Jazwares, Inc. made in China" The head isn't articulated to nod up/down, it just turns. I lost all its other armshooter's rubber weapon tips, except the one he has here. Except for its rubbery elbow joints, I like its design... I'd like to repro'-cast the parts to build a Mazinger-Z with it. ;D zozo-Magengar

Oh yeah, those big 10"ers were on sale for a while at CVS. I got me an Axl one since I had already picked up an X and Megaman one. The thing about those is, they had already done a first wave that sucked horribly. So this second have had improvements, but were still lacking. Like in the elbow articulation. Over the years, I've bought a bunch of Rockman/Megaman stuff. Have a look. ^_^ Of course, there's more than just Rockman/Megaman stuff in these. Pic1Pic2Pic3Pic4Pic5Pic6Pic7<--10"Axel These were taken a while back... I'm pretty good at posing these and since then I've gotten them all in little action poses and rearranged them. Hehe. I should retake some newer pics. I'm rather disappointed that Jazwares seems to have given up on the Megaman license. That's what I've heard anyway. I hope another company picks it up soon and does it justice. The old Rockman X model kits from Japan weren't all that bad. The joints had a tendency to wear out if you played with them too much, but when I first came across them, I just HAD to have one. There was nothing like it in the states and it was awesome. I still have it of course, and a bunch of others. I used to go to ActionAce.com to get them before they shut down. Heh. If anyone wants to talk more about Rockman/Megaman or has any news on figures, by all means post about it. ^_^

Hey, nice collection there- thanks for sharing! I also like those huge Megamen "jumbos" you have there (are they jumbos? or are they "Lucky finds" off the net? They're Awesome!). Another Megaman type figure I have is a smaller red/purple one that came with a "game chip"(?), a red sword, an extra right fist (when not using the sword) and a small yellow plastic creature. This megaman has long black/grey hair, and wears a cool helmet. It looks like the one you have, here: This is your pic, by the way; I don't have my figure with me on-hand this very moment. I don't have any game consoles for the gamechip. But I do like the figure and the litlle yellow creature. What are those creatures, their purpose, and why were they included with the megamen figures? (I had Never seen Any of the Megaman series; it's all new to me) zozo-Magengar

You can still score some of the Astroboy toys as well as the Megaman toys at BigLots. The ones near me still have the 8-9" figures of each and some of the 5" ones too.

Those huge figures were basically just huge versions of the "Guts Soul" and "Metal Soul" figures. I think they had some big versions of regular Megaman.EXE and Protoman.EXE too, but they didn't look all that great to me. As they are, these big ones are very limited in their articulation, but are good for show. I found them at TRU a good while back. Back when EXE (Battle Network) was still popular. The little yellow creature is a computer virus. Specifically, one called a "Billy" and its an electrical type. In the world of Rockman.EXE or Megaman Battle Network, our heroes are actually Navis that people use to interact with the online network and send e-mails and everything else. Sometimes they are used to battle viruses, like Megaman is. His user is named Netto (Lan in the US) and they use PETs (PErsonal Terminal) as a sort of PDA to talk to their Navi and send it into the network to do battle. They can also send battle chips in to help by slotting them into the PET. There have been several variations on it, 6 games, and an evolving anime series. Hmm. I'd like to get some of the Bandai model kits of Megaman X that theymade a few years back. Saw some in the London Chinatown before the store closed. My cousin bought one. I believe the figure was basically a diecast inner frame with plastic outer armour not unlike the Medarot/medabot model kits.

My biggest problem with those kits are the hands. They are so big and gaudy and don't seem to fit the figures well.

BigLots in my area (Capital region: Albany/Troy/Schenectady) sells some of these figures, Sometimes... I go there once in a while, keepin my eyes open for any figures sold through Clearance/Returns (open packages, etc). That's how I found my Astroboy (Make Your Own, with the light-up eyes and snap-on skin) and my little midget SD Gundam WingEagle. I also find Megamen at BigLots, on occassion. Otherwise I check at RiteAide, CVS, and Eckerd. Some of the larger thriftstores, like Salvation Army, and Goodwill, often turn up some cool figures in their toy sections. I go to these thriftstores when I wanna bash and customize figures. zozo-Magengar You can still score some of the Astroboy toys as well as the Megaman toys at BigLots. You're welcome! ^_^ I've been a Megaman/Rockman fan ever since the first game came out in the 80s. Hehe. You can still get some of the Bandai import model kits online... Your best bet is probably Action-hq.com. Try this link: www.action-hq.com/store/index.php?cPath=45_81This shows ALL of their Rockman merch, but you'll see the X model kits in there, as well as a few EXE and even Legends kits. You may be able to find some at www.toysnjoys.com, but be aware that they aren't the most coherant online merchants on the net. lol I've had some bad experiences with them, but usually end up getting what I want. It just takes a while and sometimes a number of e-mails. There were a few model kits released in the US, but I swear they may as well be knock-offs. They're like slightly scaled up, made of different plastic, and limited in articulation in ways the import model kits were not. Plus they broke way easy. The import kits do have kinda big hands, but eh. It makes for great action poses. They come with two sets of hands. One set open and one set closed fist with a hole to put a lightsaber-ish weapon in. Don't think I haven't done that. Hehe. In fact, the Zero model kits all came with Z-sabers. They weren't painted sabers, but they were still cool. You don't have to worry about paint on them otherwise, though some of the higher armor models do come with stickers that are a bit tricky to put on just right. I had so many though that I would swap armors around, swap bodies, heads, weapons, and have little battles with weapons from other toys. They're pretty neat and not all that expensive. I would say about 5.5 or so inches tall once put together. Standard action figure size. Did they ever make an Astro Boy figure that was super articulated or decently articulated? Most of the ones I saw only had about 8 points or so of articulation and looked kinda scary. I'll have to check out Big Lots again to see if they still have some.

I really havent seen any fully-articulated Astroboys in the stores... ...Toys-R-Us almost came pre-tty close with some 10-inch Astros a couple years ago, again- with light-up features and sounds, but not as fully-articulated as we'd expect. The Astroboy figure I have doesn't even turn his head because the outer skin is a shell over the skeleton whose eyes light up. The best thing I like about my Astro's limbs and fists are that these are basically robot-typical: so that I can repro'-cast these parts to build a small Mazinger or whatever other super-robot. Thanks for the links to all the other Megaman stuff; I'll check 'em out from time to time. zozo-Magengar
