Thanks! These DVD sets are quite expensive & are only for the true fan or serious collector. For quality & collectability, which no Chinese knock-off can compare to.
If there is interest, I could acquire a Grendizer, Lupid 3d, Godmarz, Zambot3, Getter Robo, or Great Mazinger box sets if requested.

deeeyyymmmm!!! those DVD's are that expensive? :0 Of course they are. Search on Amazon.jp or just look at the pictures. You'll see the retail price in Yen. In Japan, they don't discount these sets and only a few sets will be released for each anime series. There is no retail chain in Japan that stocks hordes of these sets as they are so expensive. Normally, a store will only carry one box set in stock. All three sets depicted are no longer in production. It appears expensive, but if you look at what you get, its not all that bad. Single US released Anime DVDs retail for close to $30 each. You won't find these episodes on youtube. I've searched many times on the net before I went to Japan. Voltes V - 7 discs - 966 min. - this is the entire series Mazinger - 4 discs - 1150 min. - half of the series, there is box 2 Daitarn3 - 4 discs - 494 min. - half of the series, there is box 2 The box sets are retail sealed so I can't show you the beautiful screens on each individual disc, but they are quite gorgeous looking. All of the episodes have been re-mastered by Toei & support MPEG-2 & are Dolby Digital.

Way too expensive for me. Those DVD are excellent in quality, but when the whole Grendizer DVD serie is as expensivre as Daigokin, it's not normal.

The chogokins don't have a foundation for me unless its based on a series that I've watched. I don't think I would of ever liked Transformers without watching the series. Same here. Unfortunately, some of these shows weren't ever released in the US, or were prematurely terminated due to ratings. Everything is expensive in Japan. In the US for example, we might pay $12.99 for a new retail DVD release of Pirates of the Carribean. In Japan, locals pay $39.99 for the same DVD. Its just the way it is in Japan. Then again, anime is not cheap in the US either. For example, if you buy the Cowboy Bebop series its like $150 US. $400 for the Inuyasha box sets, 1-4. If these sets don't sell, I'm happy to keep them in my collection. I just realized my trip cost more than expected.

I agree with you there. My collection appears "narrow" as far as which robots and characters I like; and could most likely stay that way, based on whatever animes of these I've watched throughout my life and which of those animes have impacted me most. zozo-Magengar Way too expensive for me. Thanks for the comment. We have it good in the US. Unlike the Japanese. Only in China and some other SE Asian countries is media cheaper. But its also poor quality. For example, I've purchased DVDs in Thailand and they don't compare to the US standards.

But then again, some of them are OK...I've got the whole of Kamen Rider V3 in a box set from HK a few years ago and apart from the odd name changes to some of the characters the sub on this is really good. Same thing for most everything else Super Sentai / live action based I've purchased though HK. I have the English dubbed versions of Mazinger and Voltes V and while a little wacky these English dubs are fine. I think they were dubbed in the Phillipines or Malaysia, I'm not sure..... but anyway as I said these English dubs fine and sure add something EXTRA to the viewing experience.... ;D

If you think of cost production for a DVD, selling it that price is stealing peolple. And I'm not talking about Junktea1, I know what he pay for those, I already tried to buy the 2 boxset for Grendizer. Back then it was nearly 500$ US each.
Profit they made is too high. At 200$ each it would have been better, while still expensive.

I'm not sure if you've seen the inside of the Voltes V box, but its absolutely gorgeous. I've seen clips of Voltes V dubbed in the Phillipines, and I really didn't like it. Their accents were too heavy. Nothing against tagalog, but it just sort took away from that cool Japanese anime feel. That's why I prefer either - good english subtitles or none. You can pretty much find the plot lines or even scripts for each episode of your fav. classic anime. Someone has done it online.

At 200$ each it would have been better, while still expensive. Well if you really love Grendizer... why not? Because these DVD sets are so expensive, you really should only buy the series you REALLY like, unless your rich. I just went overboard in Japan w/my CC. I only purchased what interested me. So if it doesn't sell, I won't be devasted because its something I wouldn't mind having in my collection. There were other series such as Tryder, Zambot3, etc. But they just didn't appeal to me. I even found Spaceship Yamato, Galaxy Express, and some other old anime classics like Getter Robo, Godmarz, & Combattler among others. Mazinger & Voltes V are classics. Daitarn3? I dunno. But I heard the style was a mix of James Bond, Voltes V, and some others. *btw - One of the anime studios is making a revised 2007 ver. of Jeeg and Reideen. Reideen looks completely different than its classic counterpart. Jeeg looks pretty much the same. There's also a Devil May Cry series in development.

I don't know, I don't have a HK version of VoltesV ....from the image you provided the Japanese VoltesV box set does look very nice. Yup, I can understand what your saying, I don't like 99% of dubs that are produced for Japanese anime either....as I said though, the dubs provided for the series I have are fine...for me, anyway. As far as I know VoltesV, Daimos, MazingaZ and many other of these type of series were never shown in Australia so I have no " nostalgia" attached to them and am happy with even a sample of any of these series to see what these series are all about. There are others who will want these series as pristine and true to their memories as possible....that I can understand as well. Please don't get me wrong junktea1...I am not in anyway trying to put down what you are doing.....think what you are trying to do in providing some lucky member a possibility to purchase a set of original, Japanese pressed DVD's is great and all power to you.
