Oh no!
Not another butchery!
Can't they just freakin' dub the original jap series? I mean the story was good..that's what makes it successful. Now they have to kill it.
I have mixed feelings about this and it's leaning towards "UGH!" And that's coming from a KR fan who likes RYUUKI

oh no..... oh No..... ohhhhhh HELL NO!!! NO They Didn't Go There! NO!!!!! I, sincerely, from the BOTTOMLESS PIT OF MY HEART, must admit one major thing: I totally, indubidently, unrepentantly, DESPISE ANY form of "amerikanization" and "Disneyfication" done to all Japanese Anime/Live-action films and tv shows. I can deal with english subtitling, ok. But This crap looks like another "VR Troopers". And, I Hated That show, too! Let alone, I can't stand the "Power Rangers" thing altogether. Ultraman "Tiga" became the H.R. Puffinstuff of "amerikan sentai". "---Whooopeedoooo, We at Time Warner Studios, will redo the G.I.Joe series with 'Our Own Anime' cellshade... and it will make US look cooley Hip with the Real Competition! We'll show them Japs We can do Better! Heeeee-Haaawwww---" C'mon, gimme a break!!! They murdered Mazinger-Z with "TranZor-Z"... then they kidnapped GoLion, and made it into "Voltron: Defender Of The Universe" plus renaming Dairruger also as "Voltron" (the "vehicle version") as though it was all "Their Own creation"... "Their Own Godly Masterpiece"!... ...then they f*king ripped off Goranger, to bring us "The Mighy Morphin Power Rangers"... ...is there Any END to this madness?!! ...Why, WHY must they brutalize every original Japanese show they can get their greedy hands on? Because they CAN'T THINK up Their OWN Original shows! Hey, if "Power Rangers" can rake in So Much MONEY for the US movie industry, to this very day, why not " Power-Rangerize" ALL the Japanese Originals! Money talks, BS walks, ya know. They Rape and Pillage, but Never give Anything Back to their sources, let alone They DON'T show Any respect for the Original McCoys of anime, the true manga masters! {{{Hey, I'm no saint, either!- I did my share of damage with my Mazinger-Z 3D animation project... Koji telling Ashura to go f--k herself!? <LOL>}}} Lemme at 'em, I wanna break their friggin faces!!! Damn, I need my coffe now. zozo-Magengar

Please, don't anyone here get me wrong, I dig all the original Japanese sentai shows although I had only watched the classic Goranger series, back in the late '70s...
It's the amerikanized "sentai" junk that I don't like.

Ryuki is one of my fave series in Masked Rider series. After I've seen that webpage, I groaned in disappointment.

As a big Sentai (and tokusatsu in general) fan, I'm not interested in this news for the show itself (I'll always just watch the Jap originals), but more interested in the toys that it will bring our way......

But think about this, Japanese folks get our "Translations" of their shows and enjoy it. Why is it that we can't stand the translations? Must have something to do with the way we (Americans) tend to fall in love with a series and stay with it year-to-year, case and point Everyone Loves Raymond. 9 years same show. While every year there's a new Ultraman or Kamen Rider and their series ends...ours just keep going and going until we get sick of it and there's a whole big celebration about the last episode. I guess with the exception of Doremon, the Japanese have a different attachment to their shows?

Playing devil's advocate: I hear you guys talking about ripping Goranger, actually it is Zyuranger that was ripped off for MMPR. Dude, it is all business. Saban wanted to make a kiddie show based of colorful heroes. He found the Sentai series in Japan. He never intended it to be like Ultraman, to deliver the same show with Japanese actors, after all to date Japanese shows still need to work on their political views especially when attempting to please the euphemism of political correctness in here in the US.
The homogenous qualities of Sentai shows in Japan vs the more heterogenous, diversity people here tend to look for whether their hearts are in it or not.
With that said, Saban is capitalizing on using the action sequences of the old Japanese, which the Japanese were willing to sell him and he makes a totally different show or group of shows which is more "American" in the sense of values, audience and content. Thereby creating a whole new show from the parts of different older shows. If you can learn to appreciate the "new" shows for what they are and what they are not, then I bet you will have a different view.
Like I said earlier, I'm playing devil's advocate since I don't really enjoy MMPR, with the exception of SPD, albeit I do like Dekaranger much better for at least these two reasons: Jasmine and Umeko. Those tub scenes would have never left the cutting room floor!

I'd just like to point out that all sorts of stuff shows up for sale via NATPE. Hell Robotech's been on the list for like 10 years running and nobody's picked it up (yes, I'm exagerrating, I know it was on few years back). In all likelihood, this version of Ryuki will go the way of Future Dragon Knight that Disney was attempted to launch a few years ago... don't get all upset over something that might not even happen.

I'd just like to point out that all sorts of stuff shows up for sale via NATPE. So, what's this NATPE thing then? Is this website just an advertisement for the rights to make and sell this show, or maybe just distribute it?

I think he may be referring to The National Association of Television Program Executives, meaning Robotech has been available for someone to air, but no one is buying into it. He is predicting, accurately I may add, that after this thing goes to syndication, no one will air it. Some small publishing house will probably buy the DVD rights.
As for the toys, heck I'm thinking, there will be nuttin' too exciting, I bet kiddie stuff.
(I hope the two guys who bought the rights to create Ryuki in English will scour the net looking for opinions and read this thread and learn from it. Before this becomes what Saban did with awesome shows like Gridman, Kamen Rider Black/RX and the Sentai.

I just finished actually reading the contents of that website. Kit Taylor...I can already tell this will be another Gridman/ Super Cyber-Samurai garbage. Oh well, maybe if we take the Japanese approach and enjoy it for it's value; not really Kamen Rider Ryuki, just looks remotely like it. We may hate it less? Or better yet, if this never airs cuz no TV exec is stupid enough to lay his career on the line for this show(doomed to fail). Even the kids won't get into this. It is only an expensive dream.

yeah, why not just DUB it??? they dub a TON of ANIME, why do they have to RE-DO the live action? are they afraid that americans won't like asian ppl as main characters? then send us Sazer-X, so we will have one american, ...and DUB it, that would be great....and TOYS!!! I want TOYS!!! that is why i endure Power Rangers...for the TOYS. I got real bored of Mystic Force....except i got TOYS. Oh no! Not another butchery! Can't they just freakin' dub the original jap series? I mean the story was good..that's what makes it successful. Now they have to kill it. ok. i have read alot of angery complaints...and i agree as of Mystic Force, BUT think of this...TOYS!!!! we get domestic TOYS!!! floods of TOYS!!! Just do what i did (after half a season of Power Rangers) just don't watch it. I wasn't attached to Boukenger, so maybe i WILL watch OO, i did like SPD, and never watched the Sentai SPD. but i watched ALL of Magiranger, so Mystic Force was just too sad in comparason.
i would be mad as HECK if they took GARO and redid it. It NEEDS to be DUBBED and brought to the USA...but NOT re-set. that would RUIN that Blade/Matrix feel to it...omg, if Disney made it into a Kiddy show, i would be extremely ticked. Is that the feeling you have about Ryuki being redone? i can't find Ryuki online.

Gotta agree with Falconhood on the domestic toy issue. All we get in the UK is Power Rangers (which I still can't get without paying for channels I don't want, which I won't do to watch a b@stardised version of Sentai) but the toys are the only Japanese mecha of any interest to me that are released here. I still won't pay out £40+ ($80+) for a DX Megazord but eventually this stuff becomes plentifull in the secondary market

Back the Truck Up!! Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad ROCKED!!! it was MUCH better than the other american shows of that time! but seriously...why not just dub them? man, u guys are lucky, i just got high-speed in time to watch Magiranger from the beginning...before that, Sentai was non-existant to me. How did u guys always watch Sentai FIRST? I remember as a kid, we got the giant Satellite Dish, and i WISHED it got Japanese TV. The closest i got was French Canada and Mexico....and something russian late at night. But America was like neopolitan icecream...3 linguistic flavors...and i wanted one that wasn't in the package.
