Thanks, magengar. Yes, definitely the Mechadude has the most diecast versions of all the Godzilla toys. There are actually 5 different versions of the Kiryu (GD45/GD45M/GD57/GD57M/GD57B). The GD45 and 45M are almost exactly the same as their GD57 counterparts, so I did not include them in the post. I guess I should bust them out eventually and add to the original post, and also include the plated GD76M Gigan I picked up last year. Everything is stored away right now, but I should be able to pull them out soon.
It's really too bad we never have seen a MechaKong, Mogera or Jet Jaguar character in diecast. It would be pretty cool to see a diecast of Mecha King Ghidorah as well. If you are listening, Bandai, please oblige!

I share your plight as well, Sketch... I also think if Bandai had gone this far to give these live-action giant monsters and mechs the zinc treatment, they should dedicate an exclusive chogokin toyline for all of the monsters and mechanical giants and vehicles in Toho Co. Ltd's entire film history... all the godzillas, the king kongs, the gameras, ghidoras, the mogeras, the gargantuas, submarine Atragon, and even Daimajin... All of them. It'll happen someday, soon, hopefully. Fans gotta be more persistent with Bandai... if we can camp out overnight and wake up to crash the gates at the mall on Black Friday, a buncha fan letters and emails to Bandai wouldn't hurt.

Did you manage to find the time to shoot GD-76m Gigan? I'm thinking about picking one up, but I'm having trouble finding decent images.

Please don't go to any special trouble on my account. This thread has been a fantastic resource already -- in fact, your shots are what sold me on a GD-57m back around the holidays. From the images I could find, I have a rough idea of the differences. It looks like the main changes are chrome instead of silver plastic on his back spines and chainsaws, and a slightly more metallic blue. Not sure about the finish on the hooks, though. Anyway, the auction I was watching ended this morning, and I decided to just go for it. It's hard to argue with $35+shipping for a shiny new kaiju Although it certainly wouldn't be on par with your shots, I could shoot a placeholder image when he gets in if that would be helpful to anyone. Cheers!

Sketcher, I love how you take pictures of your collection, particularly the ones with the black background. Can you share the set-up for these pics?

Sketcher, I love how you take pictures of your collection, particularly the ones with the black background. Can you share the set-up for these pics? Thanks for the compliment. As for setup, nothing special really. I have a large piece of black material that I use for a backdrop. I set up using a tripod on the camera to avoid shake. I light the toys from the sides and top/front using some filters to keep glare down. The camera is set to use the macro setting. Any color correction, brightness and contrast adjustments I do using Photoshop, but I'm pretty green on this stuff. If I had a better camera and maybe took some instruction, I might get better results. My workplace offers a photography class periodically. I've been wanting to take it, but again, I really need a real camera.

Perhaps some "Reveal" lightbulbs would help? I've taken some killer pics with just my digital camera, and reveal bulbs installed inside DollarStore lamps with the big tin shields, aimed at my figs from different angles. ("Reveal" is the namebrand, can be found at local hardware stores).

Thanks for sharing! I'll try to replicate that and take some pictures later. The filters that you use to diffuse the lights, are they tracing paper used for architectural / blue print drawings and such?
So the light sources are placed at the sides, rather than at the top. And as for the types of the lightbulb, I'll try to find that particular brand at my local Ace Hardware. Even if it's not available, an equivalent should be there. Thanks for the tips Tony!
What about light bulb intensity / color? Any particular ones that you guys recommend?
BTW, even without a "real camera", the results of your photos are quite spectacular.

The light filters I use came with a photo-cube kit I got a few years back. They are simple framed opaque white material that's pretty thin. Cuts the light just enough. The lights also came with the setup, but I sometimes substitute a desk lamp I have for close shots. I'm not sure what brand of bulbs I'm using to tell you the truth, but I would be happy to peek into the enclosures to check for you.

The standard sized figures are close but slightly smaller than the gd98. If you want the hyper detail of the movie suits, these are the ones to grab. Prices fluctuate, but you can have most of these fairly inexpensive. Keep an eye on the auctions for a bit to see what these go for. Be patient and you can snag them at reasonable prices.

Why didn't bandai create a chogokin of the Hensei version of mechagodzilla with Garuda? The SH Monsterarts version with Garuda only has metal feet and I cannot afford the Garuda accessory which is around $200 on evilBay.
