Hello everyone! This is my first posting to this (or any) msg. board. Im excited to found an interactive community of people who are equally or more obsessed w/ those beautiful two foot vinyl monuments as I am. Right now I only have the more common american issue Shoguns, but am trying to save and track down some rarer imports. I notice Sky and Ground Zero on ebay, going for around 180, w/ 4 days left in the auction. Any clue what these babies go for? Im sure their gonna end up way outta budget, but i got my fingers crossed. Anyone have any jumbo's not released in the states for sale at a reasonable price? (Im not too concerned bout condition if it helps.) Finally, Im a working designer in Baton Rouge, La. and lately Ive been producing enormous pictures of different Jumbos in vinyl. Generally I cut the vinyl in 2 or 3 colors and apply the vinyl to either banner material, or foam core. They really look excellent in my toy room, as im sure they would in any of yrs. I can get jpegs. to anyone whos interested in purchasing one. So far Ive got Raideen and Red Baron, but I will be designing others, and would commission any .... whew! Sorry to be so long winded.... Joel

Hi Joel, Welcome to the BBS Indeed, send pictures to admin@robot-japan.com . I would be happy to "host" your pictures for all to see on the BBS. The 'zero jumbos will probably sell for over $400 each. (assuming they are in very good condition with accessories. Tom may be able to give an exact price (probably a lot higher ). Now as to your creations, are you saying that you take pictures and then put them over vinyl? Or do you make your own designs. I'm interested in seeing the pictures Also, feel free to send a picture or two of your other jumbos. -Ed

Im at a loss for what to call these massive pictures myself. What they are tho.... I take a photo of a robot, convert it into a vector drawing, and cut the vector shapes out of giant rolls of flat vinyl. I then take each color and apply them to whatever substrate...banner material, acrylic ( trying to make a backlit robot display w/this application right now) ..basiclly whatever it will adhere too. They are massive and can be blown up to any size w/o loss of resolution or clarity. The Red Barron I have is roughly 6 ft x 3.5 ft. They can be larger .... I will get some photos probably monday up to show you guys a little better. Im also a bit limited to which robots I can render this way because I only own the american issues, and i cant find a shop w/ any rarer ones. (Ill gladly accept any high res. raster images anyone would like to send me to play w/. If interested I have an ftp for submission.) Hopefully one day Ill have perfected this tecnique and will have enought assmbled for a gallery show somewhere. Thanks for the info. on the Zero Bros. (even if it was bad.) I probably am in the wrong profession to support such an esoteric and costly obsession, but I soldier on looking for my next jumbo regardless... Joel

Heh ... you work in the SIGN industry, right?
I just got out of sign work when i got into jumbos. I was surrounded by 3m vinyl and GraphixAdvantage, but never had the opportunity to utilize them.. sigh..

You guessed it..... The medium (vinyl) lent itself perfectly to jumbos....I had been painting oil "portraits" of my collection for a while...but when it struck me that I could render them in the same material they were manufactured in...it seemed too perfect. The colors are so on point, and the scale is overwhelming....hopefully Ill be able to sell enough of these to make enough pocket change to by a new machinder. Joel

LOL! Its so funny you picked that up before you'd even seen em...they definately have a pop art feel to them, w/the lack of middle tones, and their bright primary colors they'd do mr. warhol or roy lichtenstien proud. Joel

You would do well with the right marketing. Hmmm..... If you ever want to do a promotion on www.robot-japan.com then send me a line, a sample, and a write-up. I'd be happy to help test the market if not sell "direct". Just send any info to admin@robot-japan.com I look forward to the pics... -Ed

Thanks so much Ed...ill definately get you the appropriate materials. Creativity only gets ya so far Ive learned...unfortunately , while the big ideas come like breathing to me, marketing I know very little about (and I dont have enough charisma or contacts to do what I know about it well.) -joel
