The one in the auction is a bootleg.
The popy and matchbox issued ones are both all plastic, and identical quality. The popy version came with a sword, some small antennae and stickers. The Matchbox version did not.
There are at least 6 or 7 different bootleg versions of this toy floating around. They all are JUNK! parts dont fit well, and most of the friction motors are gone. The only point in getting one is to get the sword.

Hey Josh. Then I can't believe I got ripped off of what I paid!! . I should have asked but didn't know.. only if I did some research before I compulsively bidded heh. You are so right about parts not fitting right! So how much do you think my bootleg is worth? lol

Are either the official Matchbox or Japanese Kikoukantai versions made of die-cast as opposed to plastic?

Bad news man....sorry to hear that. I figured that they were bootlegs when I saw extra yellow plastic. Here is a small, but all diecast Dairuger a.k.a. voltron you may want to check out. It is the only diecast transformer version I know of. www.robot-japan.com/dairuger_iv.htmEd

WOW! I never knew there was a diecast version that actually separated into all the vehicles and teams! So how rare is this one and how much do they go for?

Actually, there are two diecast transforming versions out there, but I'll get to that.
The official popy / bandai releases of dairugger are as follows:
GB-72 ST dairugger (non transforming) GB-73 DX Dairugger (transforming) DX Dairugger (plastic) (Transforming - this was supposed to be diecast, like the SG-01 Tetsujin, but after tetsujin Bandai realized that it would be too expensive.) Small train station toy Pura Dera Dairugger Mechagold Dairugger (3 versions) Mechaclear Dairugger Gashapon Dairugger Gurarmusu Secret Weapon (Big Bear) Dairugger XV Secret Weapon (Big Bear)
Matchbox / US versions:
ST Voltron 1 (same as GB-72, minus sword, missiles, and launching hands DX Voltron 1 (same as big plastic popy, minus swords, stickers and antennae) Voltron 1 Assembler (rubber) Voltron 1 Battle Riser Voltron 1 Programmable
Bootleg:
- Bootleg mechagold - Bootleg train station toys - Carnival Machinder (15" tall ) - Bootleg TRANSFORMING GB-72 - (thats right, the bootleggers took a non-transforming dairugger and made it transformable. i've only seen one, ever.) - Bootleg GB-73 - Bootleg DX plastic (many versions of this - also known as LSA combo) - mexican flourescent plastic bootleg.
I'm still looking for the carnival machinder, and the bootleg transforming one...
So to answer your questions, the GB-73 is partially diecast, and can go for $200-300.

Say what now? I've never heard of a Dairagger Machinder of any kind, be it Carnival, Jumbo, Junior or otherwise. Do you have any pics of said toy??

oh man this was years ago.
I'd say 2 or 3 years ago on ebay, I saw one. No pictures anymore, but it was maybe 15 inches tall, much wider and poorly molded in semi transparent plastic. All the sections were one color, no paint, stickers etc. Just a body, head, two arms and two legs. It was one of the ugliest things i've ever seen, but it definately seemed like a carnival machinder. I think it was from mexico. Mostly Dark blue and a magenta-ish color i believe. I wish i had bought it, but it was before i was buying anything dairugger...

Admin, yea I missed the yellow parts and my sirens failed to alert myself lol. Its an expensive mistake but on the bright side Josh says its a unique Dairugger hehe. Wow I didn't know there were so many kinds of them!!! Omg Josh you have almost all of those?! LUCKY you. A Kikonkantai Dairugger GB-73 MIB was sold on Ebay around 2 months ago. If I remember correctly he went for $200+ . I was going to link it but couldn't find the item number damn. Do they still make those in Japan? If so I'm flying over there!

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post anyway. I have the "Carnival Machinder" Dairugger. It is as ugly as Josh says. It's 15" tall, polyethylene, and every piece is painted a different bold color. It has a purple head, hot pink "rotors", and other multicolored limbs, I cant remember how exactly they're configured. The thing is so ugly for the longest time I didn't even have it out, I bought it and immediately put it in my closet. I have it out now in my shelf and I'll try to post some pics for you all to check out when I get a chance. I have some other pretty cool Dairugger boot stuff too, but nothing too unusual. I can honestly say that unless you're a die-hard Dairugger or machinder completist, there is no reason to pick this guy up. He's somewhat cool from a novelty standpoint or for a cheap polyethelyne fix, but he's hideous otherwise. And no, he's not for sale.

I'm sort of glad it's not for sale as Josh and I would have to fight over it and he's bigger than I am. Judging by your description, I suspect it's not a true "Carnival" Machinder anyway though. It's sounds more like one of those bagged junior machinders that occasionally surface from out of the Phillipines or some place like that. I can't wait to see it!

Yeah, I have no idea of its origins. I got it a few years ago for 20 bucks or something. I don't think its a "true" Carnival Machinder either, more just a really ugly knockoff. I checked it out again last night and it actually has a blue head with silver painted face, the "glider" on his chest is pink and the rotors are actually purple. the torso is orange and his limbs are green, red, white, and some other color I cant remember (only one cup of coffee so far). I should also mention that for what he is, he has relatively good articulation. His feet swivel free of the legs, the legs swivel on the hips. The arms swivel at the shoulders only. The rotors and glider move as well, and you can actually remove the glider from the chest with relative ease. The joints are all pretty loose but it still stands up and displays well (if indeed such a monstrosity can display "well").
I'll try to get some shots up here next week for you all to check out.

Nekrodave is now the proud owner of the Dairugger "Mini Machinder" monstrosity. Perhaps he will post pics. I tried but it was so ugly it broke my camera.

Pics are below. I brought him up to Josh's house Friday and in showing it to him, found out two things: 1) This is NOT the same toy he saw on eBay a few years back. The sculpt may be the same, but the colors are much different. Which means we gotta be on the lookout for another version. 2) This is a scaled up version of a bootleg Josh has that he believes may have originated in Mexico. The only difference is that the smaller one comes with a sword that can be placed in the hand and I mean IN the hand. It goes straight through the top of the hand and out of the palm underneath.
