what do you do when the motivation goes down and you feel lazy doing your project or custom...
thanks mannix

I usually just set it aside to return to it later. Customs are seldom a quick process for me. I have a plastic tote that holds all my customs in various stages of completion, as well as my paints, Xactos, dremel, etc.
You can't force creativity, and in my younger days I screwed up a few models by working on them when I wasn't properly focused or enthused about the project.
A good example is one of my current projects. A Marvel Legends Odin (to go with Thor and Loki). He's been standing on my shelf for nearly three weeks, 95% finished. He just needs to have his eyepatch fitted and a little touch up on his spear, but I know if I just try to do it without getting a clear idea in my mind, I could ruin a figure I'm very proud of.

I'm typically Lazy ( except at my dayjob) when it comes to personal projects at home... whether I'm doing stuff on my computer, or stuff related to customs and figures we discuss here at RJ. Once I get focused on a project, I stick with it to completion. Other times, I'll stop with breaks just to get away from it and refreshen my mind with new ideas and attitudes for the project. My favorite time to work on stuff is during the warm weather seasons, day or night, preferably more during sunlight hours in a brightly lit room; and my room has to be clean and clutterless... ... a clean environment enhances creativity. Some music in the background ( preferably the radio; so I don't have to get up to change a cd) at very low volume lets me concentrate on my work. Where I live, I have the option of stepping outside for some paint/sanding jobs, if needed; I live in a house in the back of a dirt road, off the main drag- therefore I'm not distracted by any would-be spectators... ...this is great in the summertime. zozo-Magengar BTW (off-topic), I uploaded a Cantonese version of the Inframan movie, in my most recent post in the Toku/Sentai section... robotjapan.proboards12.com/index.cgi?board=BandaiPowerRangers&action=display&thread=1171564169&page=1#1171826698Enjoy! ;D

I agree with the Captain. I put my projects aside and work on them when I am in the mood. You will work better when you are enthusiastic about the project. Sometimes I will go back and forth to different projects depending on which one I am feeling. Watch the cartoons or the intros and you might get more inspiration to work on your project, it works for me. Your motivation will come back again mannix.

thanks bro, its just hard during winter here in nyc that you dont have space to paint or else the whole apartment will smell of it, knowing the apartments here are small, i have a small space outside to do it, but i dont want to ruin the paint job because of temp conditions.
thanks everyone

Yep, the cold weather in NYC-- or Anywhere here in the northeast-- will certainly ruin a good paintjob. And, if you open a window to let the fumes out, your apartment will get cold in a Snap thus ruining your paintjob even more.

While you wait, don't let it slow you down from using the ol' Mental Drawingboard in back of the mind... There's a wealth of ideas going on back there, which doesn't necessarily involve Painting. zozo-Magengar yep, thats why i stopped it.... oh well, cant wait for spring hehehe

I understand your spraypainting woes...
I'm in the southeast USA. If it's not too cold, then the humidity's too high, or it's raining. I've been known to pile up accessories and parts waiting to get their base coat. I think I recently had accessories for 8-12 different figures all getting their first coat of silver together(ask magengar about my silver painting)!

That's right... Capt did a touchup on my RAH Grendizer's harken weapons. I tell ya, them harkens now look Phat in their new metalic paintjob than they ever did when they were originally mere pieces of unpainted plastic accessories.
I think I'll go down south and have him do my toenails! ;D ;D ;D

BTW, Capt- what kind of paint did you use for the harkens?
I'm about to assemble a Mechacolle Mazinger, and touchup a jumbo GrtMaz, and other figures. Amongst the paint supplies, I just picked up some clear finish and acrylic spraypaint for use as a top-coat to give my figs a real nice -n- shiny luster.

Awww, jeez...
I have no brand loyalty when it comes to spray paint. I just checked my spray can storage and I have at least 7 different metallic colors. There's a Krylon Silver and a Rust-o-Leum chrome, so it was probably one of those. I may have used a Krylon X-metals base coat (If it's sparkly, I did, shiny: I didn't). I touched it up by masking it off using teflon(plumber's) tape and spraying a hammered copper on the 'heads' and hand painting the gold rings with Liquitex acrylic paints. I sealed them with a clear gloss acryllic sealer (although I keep Matte on hand as well).
The teflon tape is a very handy trick, it makes wrap around straight lines easy!
...and you couldn't afford my nail services. I'm a regular LeonarTOE Davinci!

<LMAOF!!!> "leonarTOE", hahahahaaaaaaahahahaha! Thanks Capt for the paints info. Sounds like any one of those are good to use, if done Right. And I'll say again, you did a Terrific job on the harkens and the Great Mazinger swords.
