Does anyone recommend a paint for painting soft vinyl? I have tried all kinds of paint and nothing seems to cure all too well. Especially in areas where there is contact with the shelf.

is soft vinyl same as PVC?
i used krylon multi-purpose interior and exterior spray paint for almost everything i do on my customs(plastic, metal or rubber), dries in 12mins and cures overnight.
that is for basic colors, chrome, silver and gold differ in curing time.
dont use oil based enamel, it takes a lot of time to cure it.
this is based on my experience, maybe some of our co-members have other paints used for soft plastic. ^_^

I use regular model paints with a spray primer. I like the primer from the Warcraft minatures. They sell a spray primer. I like to use acrylics as well. Drys fast and looks good.

Use Acrylics only. Enamel will melt the vinyl. You can also use Tamiya spray cans from hobby stores, they're not exactly acrylic, but some special formulation that is vinyl safe and they coat very smoothly.
