Hey everybody!
First post!
Just wondering how you tell the fake gold mazinger made in Hong Kong from the original rare one.
Tet28 has one up on ebay with other overpriced reserve items.
Pictures to small to get a good look. Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks! Rednecktex

Welcome aboard!
I don't know a thing about Gold Mazinger, but here's what my general ebay intuition tells me:
The guy has never sold anything on ebay before. All of his feedback is from purchases (of similar items). He seems to be a genuine collector. So while he isn't a reputable seller yet, he's also not a professional dealer trying to make a profit on a few cases of knock offs. Chances are, this is the real thing coming from his personal collection.
Best of luck!

I am not an expertwith these, but I do believe that this may be an original (or at least the limited edition Banpresto licensed reproduction). The Hong Kong unlicensed repro has two missle holes in the chest "V" Mazinger "Chest Fire" section and the "V" does not fold down. This looks to have the "V" that folds down and the two hidden chest missles holes will be there underneath...like the original.

Welcome rednexktex! I assume you are from the south ;D That's a tough one. I only have seen a fake gold one and my understanding is that Mazinger fakes have big box differences in the print style. The newer repros (I hear) have moriare (s.p. ) or dot patterns. The old ones have solid color screenings used.... The new fake "color" mazingas sometimes have sticky paint of the feet and have a slightly differnt blue used. The gold one that is hard to figure out. I would also look at box oxidation or paperwork oxidation for signs of age. tet28 seems to have some superb vintage items that no one else has. Why not ask him via e-bay. Then you could have protection should you purchase the item. -Ed

P.S. Earlier when the repros began appearing I spoke with a dealer about the gold fakes. He was saying that they were VERY difficult to reproduce (he heard) and that a large portion of the set was thrown out and of poor quality. So in the end there were very very few fake gold mazingas.
........I have observed very few reaching the market.

Don't forget, there is a HUGE physical difference as well. The knock offs do not have the "flip down" chest "V" piece...it is a static piece of plastic mounted to the chest and two holes in the "V" itself. Overall a very nice toy for $30-$50....and fun to have....but not authentic.

;)Yep! I am from Texas. Where you say Shogun and they think of Richard Chamberlain. The only stuff at toy shows around here is vintage 90's Star Wars! <Sarcasm intended!> I look forward to sharing and learning on this board.
I may have a redneck, but I don't wear boots! Rednecktex
