Hey guys,
Here's the deal. I really like some of what Chogokin and GoDaikin have to offer. I have Bioman, Biodragon, Super Abegas, and Machine Dolphin so far. I love them for their unique transformations and for their sci-fi fantasy looks that capture my imagination. Which othe GoDaikin/late Chogokin toys would you recommend? Keep in mind I'm a thrifty spender here and will only pull out the big bucks for a REALLY solid toy. I saw God Sigma go for $60 on ebay last night and thought about it, but it didn't look particularly cool. I'm passing up a Valvalos (sp?) for $40 tonight cuz I'm just not sure about it. So what do you guys recommend?

My friend, you cannot go wrong with a Popy Raideen. The figure is heavy and chock-full of detail down to the individual jets under his feet. I can clearly remember , as a 4th grader, watching Raideen beat an opponent to a bloody pulp, transform into a Godbird and then mercilessly slice through the creature's abdomen. Good times.

If you want SOLID toys for a value I can recommend the Goggle V. It tends to have a large value for the money. Some fans, though, don't appreciate the "Goggle Dump" . Be sure to try a Poseidon, Great Mazinger, and Raideen if you haven't already found them. They are yet another great value. Then look into the various incarnations of LionBot/ Voltron. I have seen the Popy/Matchbox Golions sell for reasonable prices. -E

Oh, by "solid", I didn't mean investment value. I meant "all around great toy".
Cool suggestions. But is there anything else that transforms or combines in a cool way? I know only the later Chogokin toys transformed and that transformation was still a really new idea, but which were the best transforming ones?
Don't get me wrong. I dig Poseidon (have the Shogun Warriors version) and Mazinger (I have the Shogun Warriors Jumbo Great Mazinger), and Raideen looks cool, but I want more of a Bioman/Super Abegas/Machine Dolphin feel. I love that cheesy 70's futuristic space age look they all have, which is why I considered Valvalos (probably still spelt wrong), but his transformation and robot mode looked questionable.
Also, is Soul of Chogokin still going? Do you think the line will ever include the combing/transforming robots?

A toy line that is highly overlooked and offer GREAT play value are the Takara Brave series robots....THESE ARE AWESOME! My first was the GaoGaiGar....very nice...but no metal here. Just very cool transforming robots...GaoGaiGar is about 12" tall...combined. Also the Tomy Eldoran series robots are pretty neat and very unique in their transforming/play value. I have the King GoSaurar and he stands a WHOPPIN' 15 inches tall combined. As far as spending the bucks for GoDaiKin style robots, you have to remember that a few of them are actually Sentai (Power Rangers for us in the US ) robots, and your BioMan is definately from an older sentia series...named Bioman . If you buy the US Megazords...you can get them at a great price compared to the Japanese version, but usually miss out on some extra diecast, decals, and other little niceities. The US Omega Zord is dead on to the Japanese version with TONS of diecast and offers some nice transformation. But if you are going old school GoDaiKin....I think GodMarz is your ticket. I had one many years ago and gave it to a friend years ago when I stopped collecting toys...I am kicking myself now. I nice one will probably run between $300 to $400....but it ios one heck of a toy.

Cool! Someone who's on the same mental track as me!
Yep, I was specifically thinking about the Sentai bots when I mentioned GoDaiKin, and I'm all over the American Megazords (acquiring more by the day). I just really like the solid, hevay diecast transforming ones from the days of yore. I love the new stuff, but I'm not a huge fan of plastic.
As for Takara Brave...
I used to really be into them, but I've kinda' fallen out of love with them. Im actually looking to sell mine. Plastic (again), and it's too bulky to be agile, but too agile to be pleasantly bulky. I guess the feel just isn't exactly what I'm going for. Takara Brave has its own unique style, and that style just isn't mine anymore.

Undoubtably the coolest Popy transforming robots are the Voltes V, and Combatra DX versions. Both are five module toys that not only combine, but transform (in combined form) from robot warior to juggernot battle tank. I don't know if they were sold as a single box set before the Godaikin issue. The ones I have are in five separate boxes.

shaxper: (yay Usagi!) I can only comment on the ones I have owned, so here goes: Loved BioRobo Dx(Bioman). Daltanias Dx, and DaiDenjin Dx. Less love for Voltes V and Sun Vulcan. No Love for Goggle V and Daitetsujin 17. Can't put my finger on what exactly endeared Daidenjin to me so strongly. Could be the 'crown' head, or the cool ship transformation, or the crazy morning star/mace. Let's go with the morning star. Great toy, not much $$$ as chogokins go, good weight(i.e. diecast). CapA ( Team-up of the year: 2006)
