I notice the box says BOSS BOROT instead of BOSS ROBOT. Is this a typo?

That's the character's name from the anime. I bet the Japanese can't say Robot that easily....but they can say Borot. "RO" is difficult.

How cool is this toy. Kinda looks goofy to me (part of its charm!). As I am attempting to complete the first gen Mazinger team, is it cool as a stand alone time or just good enough to complement the Mazinger team? I will appreciate any thoughts

I will appreciate any thoughts Goofy means good when it comes to Boss Robot. ;D Very funny looking Robot. His body and feet are die-cast. Very heavy for a 4.75" Inches tall robot. Excellent paint job. It comes with three heads with different faces. His arms are similar to GX-06 Getter 3. For me, I really like this toy. I enjoy playing it. It's good to have him with the Mazinger team. TOYBOX DX has a review of BOSS BOROT and they also have nice pictures to show. Check it out. www.toyboxdx.com/rumble_plus/032802-boss.html

Yes, I agree with Albert...it is a pretty neat toy..it is well articulated with a very nice paint job (as you would expect from a BanDai SOC) but if you only pick up one SOC...this is not your dude. He is a nice complementary figure and helps expand your Mazinger collection.
