Hey Shax, just out of curiousity, how rare/valuable is Poseiden? I haven't seen anything like him anywhere else. Granted, I only check eBay and a couple new toy shops, but still, if eBay never get's 'im, that says something...

In all honesty, I've never seen him elsewhere either. I thought he was the Shogun Warriors version at first, which goes from $15-50, depending upon condition, but only the original Chogokin version converts its legs to tank treads and tilts back its rockets. Funny thing is, I got him along with trailbreaker and grapple in a junk lot, just like in the comic. I was about to resell him in another junk lot (not knowing what he was) when I was like "no, wait, it's too funny that someone tried to sell this guy as a Transformer" and comic history was born At any rate, he's in horrible shape, which I'm sure decreases the value. Still very solid, but ridiculous amounts of paint wear, bent rockets, and a slightly loose head. I'd be curious to know what he's worth, myself...

actually its called poseidon for both Jap ver and shogun warriors. the Jap ver of course as we all know as GA-12 comes with a black stand, and black missles. shogun warriors also release this version as the 1st version poseidon this one doesn't have the stand but the missle launcher can be positioned to the back and the feet can be converted to a tank this ver is limited same as the dragun version with both launching fist.. the 2nd and 3rd ver is the one you always see on ebay, the missle launcher on the 2nd and 3rd ver is just steady on top of the shoulders. Last month i saw 2 loose 1st ver poseidons on Yahoo jap one for 6000yen and the other for 4000+yen. Nobody is bidding on it due to its condition. The boxed ver(GA-12) is expensive it cost around $200- $350 depending on condition...the shogun warriors 1st ver is around $150- $200 mib.

One weird thing about Poseidon is that I have seen numerous of them WITHOUT a stand. These toys have come all over the world and from old stocks and numerous collectors. I have a suspicion that the stands were not put into all Japanese boxed Poseidons.

Is there any way to tell whether I have a Chogokin version or a 1st Shogun Warriors version? Keep in mind that mine came loose and doesn't include a tell-tale stand.

Is there any way to tell whether I have a Chogokin version or a 1st Shogun Warriors version? Keep in mind that mine came loose and doesn't include a tell-tale stand. whether that one is a shogun or the GA12 both are hard to find. -getta poseidon jap GA12 and shogun 1st ver are both the same they both have bendable rocket launcher, bendable tank feet and black missles but no stand for the shogun 1st ver.For the 2nd shogun ver, missle launcher doesn't bend, it includes black missles too. 3rd ver is the same as 2nd ver but missles are yellow and the shape is like a flower. - Jap getta dragun Ga10 and shogun's getta dragun 1st ver has both shooting fist, a blue strip sticker around the arms and black eyeliner look.Jap ver has a black stand while the shogun 1st ver doesn't. the 2nd ver of getta dragun(shogun) has only one shooting fist, no blue strip stickers on the arms and eyes don't have the eyeliner effect. -getta Raider- 1st ver Jap GA-11 has gold eyes,a display stand, 2 fist, 1 drill, missle launcher, and 6 red missles. 1st ver Shogun Warriors has gold eyes and all extras except for the stand. 2nd shogun ver has silver eyes,1 drill, 1 fist, 1missle launcher and red missles. 3rd ver (shogun) is like 2nd ver except for the yellow flower like missles. i hope this helps...

I'm going to have to disagree with you gentlemen; 1st release Poseidons are plentiful on ebay. The first version has a chromed neck ring and a black "v" decal below the belt. Second and Third versions have a red neck ring and no decal below belt on second version and painted red "v" on third. The black decals are usually long gone on the loose 1st versions, but the chrome neck ring is a dead give-away.

Funny, I have both a first and a second version, and I never realized the neck difference. Thanks.
Know of any ways to distinguish a 1st version Shogun Warrior from an original Chogokin? Mattel produced them in the US so they couldn't have just been Japanese overstock, could they?

I believe Mattel's 1st version of Poseidon, Dragon, Raider, Raideen, Dangard, Gaiking and Voltes are identical to Popy's; can't say the same for Daimos.

I forgot to mention 1st version Mazinga in the "identical" list.

great mazinga has 2 versions too. you can tell by the position of the red chest piece. the 1st ver is lower than the 2nd ver, this is both shogun and popy. daimos shogun 1st ver is the same as the jap ver.the 2nd version has the flower type missles. regarding poseidon, i guess it depends on when we check ebay. the ones i saw at ebay that are mostly 2nd and 3rd version was like years ago, now i don't know of course since i already have the jap version. sorry my bad. lets just say, good luck guys here's how to tell which one is which, hope you get what you want on ebay.

There are 2 versions of Shogun Warrior Daimos; the 1st has small yellow missiles while the 2nd has the yellow safety missiles. From what I've read, there are subtle detail differences between Shogun's 1st release of Daimos and Popy's ST version.

You know, I thought that part of the story was too authentic eBay to be far from the truth. Although I'll bet you didn't leave negative feedback...

well, i only have the japanese ver the rest i just figure out thru my reference books. both jap and shogun 1st ver looks the same: difference jap (only one ver for popy) has more missles, extra 2 fist, and extra blade. The details are the same "except" for the yellow thing on the chest for the 2nd shogun ver. the second ver has no details on the yellow chest thing. its just plain yellow with a small green sticker in the middle, while both jap and 1st ver has black lining design on them.

The most important distinction between the first and second version getta ryger is that on the first version the knees bend. the latter versions do not. Also, early versions had black striped stickers around the bottom of the wing tips.

to answer the original question...I've seen Getter Poseidon on ebay for 15-30.00 sans box. You need to be a little creative with search terms, since most people don't actually know that its a Shogun Warriors toy..but terms like "Japanese Transformer" or "Diecast robot" can be surprisingly fruitful. Likewise Ryga and Dragun frequently turn up on ebay sans box for about the same price.
