How has your opinion of SOC toys matured and seasoned? Would you be willing to part with the Soul of Chogokin toys?
How about Godaikin toys?

I'm in to new toys so I am biased with the SOC toys. Aesthetics is my thing ;D

Soul Of Chogokin is one of the best toy lines out there. Excellent sculpt, proportions, gimmicks, and perfect size.
I wouldn't part with them even if it meant cutting my limbs off ;D

If I want to, I can find minor Q/C complaints about all of my SOC pieces. Nonetheless, they have better 'shelf presence' than the Godaikins. Like any product, toy robots have improved over time. The difference, I think, is that the Godaikins, like the Popy's, were toys first and foremost. They were made for play. The SOC pieces are made for display. And they do it with a capital 'D'. The improved pose-ability is just icing on the cake. I don't really make much distinction between 'new' and 'old'. In '79 I kept buying these Japanese robots because I thought they were the coolest toys I'd ever seen. Not much has changed, really. Part with them? Only by will. ;D JWM

Godaikins carry the beauty of old toys, they were meant for children, and I have been blessed to exploit those the came my way at play. They will always tickle my nostalgic fancy. SOC's strike that chord of nostalgia but satisfies my more mature preference of accuracy and proportions. I never really wanted to part with any of them, but I have been coerced by forces stronger than my will to let some of them go.

No matter what other toy line distracts me...I always gravitate right back to teh GoDaiKins (And Micronauts)...Especially characters that were Shogun Warriors like Combattra, Daimos, and Dangard (Who wasn't a GoDaiKin...but SHOULD have been ) Those were the ones I grew up with and they can never be outshined no matter how sweet the newer versions look

It is still the vintage Godaikin for me, specially those produced during the "golden age" (my quote) of 1974 to 1985. Roughly from Mazinger Z to Tobikage.

Frankly, i am still new in Godaikin lines but good knowledge of SOCs. Frankly, It depends on different characters.
for example. i prefer Combattler V SOC to Voltez V vintage due to it details and playability.
but i prefer the older Dancouga than SOC dancouga, due to its huge complexity (too exagerrating). But playability in SOC won. also, its too ambitious for such a big toy to pose like a Mask rider. (Did you get what i Mean?) the weight cant take it though.
I wouldnt want to see a SOC Daimos as i find "it may" spoil the beauty of the original Daimos. I prefer as it is for godaikin Daimos for example. my point of view. I may be wrong though.

JWM, thanks for the warm welcome!
I used to buy these japanese robot toys for my children way back in mid-70s. Most likely, I bought them for myself though I enjoyed playing them with children. Now, my 30-year sons like to reminisce and remember the TV shows and these toys.
I have started collecting these vintage robots from 1975 to 1985 again for my grandchildren.

As for me, I am looking forward to the SOC's take on Daimos Might be quite far fetched, though. I had Daimos as a kid. I also had it as an adult, but sold it a few months ago. I want to see a better proportioned Daimos. I am also curios how they'd deal with it transforming from Tranzer to Daimos mode and back. ;D

I'll take a Godaikin over a SOC anyday.
The whole draw of SOC's is for their looks, posability, and accuracy to the anime. Growing up in the US in the early 80's, I never saw animes for these characters, unless you count Voltron and Tranzor Z. My only real exposure to these characters are the toys themselves, so if it were up to me then the whole SOC line would be more "Soul of the Toy", not "Soul of the Character". The uni-five Dai Kyojin got it right. That was a toy. SOC's are not toys. I appreciate them for what they are, but the're not the reason I collect this stuff.
