The DX verion is the very first Japanese robot I ever had .... but I was very disappointed as it was all plastic ... Is the GB-73 an actual die-cast (chogokin) robot?

Yes, the smaller ST dairugger is diecast. The japanese version launches fists and missiles, the US (matchbox) version does not.
There is also a bootleg ST that actually disassembles into its individual pieces. I only know of one person who owns one.

My personal favourite of these Dairuggers is the gorgeous gold diecast Victora version.
He stands about 3 inches tall, has a great sword, disassembles like the big plastic one, and best of all is all gold....
Except his sword, which is silver.
And you can get him for $10 pretty much anywhere.
The only thing the big one betters him on is his face shield....
