What is the different between the two? Are the robots identical? How about the weapons?

One difference is the sword. The sword that comes witht he 5 box set come apart into 3 pieces while the sword that comes with the bix box does not.

I have the old five-box yellow joint version. It has one 3 piece sword, no spare 'V' chest piece/sword hilt. JWM

yes, green boxes are the 1st version, but I don't know if yellow joint version is in the 5 boxes (also green boxes version) ... I think yellow joint version is only in the first version of volt in box

The box has a bluish-green background (just tryin' to make your day more difficult ;) )
All goofing aside, I think I have the second version (purchased new in '78). The box illustration shows red elbow joints, but the toy has yellow ones. JWM

yes! box illustrations (both in 5 box version and volt in box version) show always red joints. But if you have yellow joints you must have the first version.
