hate a gokin?! nope, just do not have enough time to go around looking for toys I could dislike or "hate". I usually just see the ones I want for my collection and the rest simply escapes my reality distrortion field.

I'm not into animal-themed robots much either. I like the U.C. Gundam timeline because of military themes and greater degree of "realism". The Gundam Wing Zero wasn't a big hit with me either.

I don't want to freak any of you out, but I find it hard to like Voltes. I just don't get it. Most of the individual vehicles look like bits of a robot with wheels. That and Kubricks - what they they all about

If it makes any one happy I love Tetsujin 28

I will defend you, gazza13, as I think Voltz is about as uninspired a design as I've ever seen(let's cross combattra with a a box!). But I will force feed you kubricks until you come around.

I like Voltes, but mostly because he is the classic design of 70's robot gestalt/ combiners. He is a boxy fellow, but I would love to see an updated Voltes (ie Mazinkaiser) and I think it would be really easy to do.
I think the original version of Voltes looks like it has more energy in the design. It's the details mostly, like the colors, the lines, and the stickers. Even more the case with Combattra. If the originals had the same articulation and accessories as the SOC versions, I would would rather have the originals.

but all 70's robots are boxy as they were meant to mimic Superheros i think.
Check out the underwear over tights similarities between Superman and Voltes V, Mazinger etc.

Yeah, that's true, but sometimes they were more boxy in the toys than in the animes (like with Clover Gundam for example) but with Voltes boxy was his design straight up, but it worked for him as a very stoic, tough look that epitomed 70s super robot. Guys like Mazinger, Reideen and maybe even Daltanious don't have quit as much of an unmistakable 70's vibe to me.

I'll admit Mazinger may be bulky, and look awkward in some of the old anime, but I don't see him as boxy or blocky like Voltz5. He's sleek, smooth like disco, and the only way he could be more 1970s to me is with a huggy-bear hat.

I'd have to say Vavilos, -Die-cast content:very poor, heels, wheels and screws -Robot mode:Ugly, what's with these tiny arms,he couldn't scratch his nose even he tried (not that robots need to play with their noses...) Actually he does not even have a nose, not even a mouth.... -'Displayability': the 2 wings that stick out on each side make him a real pain to display next to other bots when running out of display space (not that it matters as no one would want to sit next to him on the toy shelf anyway) -Ship mode:vaguely O.K but nothing to write home about -Gun mode:only good thing about it are the big missiles so you could use it to mame your little sister.;D Voltus V on the other hand, has everything: -Yellow,Red and Blue:trademark colours of cool Giant robot -Mega Huge disproportionate sword (that all cool bots should have) -Accessories galore, and it can shoot missiles from nearly everywhere -Massive diecast content, unlike Vavilos, throw a DX Voltes on your little sister's head and she'll probably end up in intensive care and your bot will still be C9.5 -Wheels under its feet, just in case you got tired of carrying a 3kg bot around the house -Butch, Bulky and Manly unlike his brother Combattra
Still I know it's a bit unfair to compare Vavilos to Voltes,but.....
Sorry to all Vavilos die hard fans, I don't hate it, I just don't like it that much.....;D

I used to dispise Laserion.
As time has passed it has actually moved way up on my list. I just remember how many of them were broken straight from the shipping company as they sat on store shelves.

Wow this thread just won't die, will it?
I hate any animal-themed mecha that is meant to transform from something organic. That is, I don't mind Voltron/GoLion, but I can't stand the Beast-Wars TF line... there's something that just won't translate into a toy. What happens to all the seems?! Is all that organic material meant to be living tissue? WTF? ...aside: I have a love-hate relationship with Gingaman because of that - the "beasts" are clearly living things and then right before they transform into their robot-mode, suddenly turn into mecha-versions of themselves!
Speaking of which, I also hate any toy bot that requires extra pieces for feet and fists AFTER it transforms (like the old G1 "gestalts")... I mean, it doesn't take much imagination to design a robot you could nickname "stumpy" and then slap some accessories on it after the fact.
But my absolutely most hated toy I have right now (which fits nicely under this topic because it actually is a gokin) - is the first Aoshima Mazinkaizer. This may shock you because on the whole, it's not that bad. But I've never seen a gimmick fail so miserably as its rocket-punch arms that I gotta wonder why they didn't just jettison the idea during development before going into production. It's also so huge, that while impressive to look at, is also totally unweildy and rather un-playable for fear of poking your own eye out.

I really dislike the super deformed bots...always have since the stubby Macross ones in the 80's...I want my 'bots to be tall, and look like they could kick some ass...not like they are waiting for their lunch money... I also really don't like the whole Kubrick / block figure stuff...but hey, more of those for everybody else

Yeha, I agree about the super deformed stuff. Never liked it.
The Kubricks don't do it for me either, but I never really disliked them, just never wanted to own any, with one exception... The giant sized Evangelion 01 figure. That thing is kinda sweet.
