So which would you choose?

I've had a Golion KO in my collection for some time now. It is a black faced one, but I think its a combo of several different versions. The chest and legs have diecast, but the arms are all plastic. It seems to have all the missile launchers of the original on the legs and chest, and the chrome is beautiful. It really display nicely.

I just picked up a Popy Golion, complete with stickers on each part. I am not that familiar with versions, so I don't know what generation it is, if there were even different Popy versions. However, the chrome is almost completely worn away, and it overall doesn't display as nicely (scratches, dirt, etc.).

So...... which would you choose to keep and display?

I chose the Popy version. I much prefer to have the comfort of knowing that the Golion on my shelf is the real deal. Mine was missing its wings, so I took the wings from the KO version. I was considering swapping out the chrome legs, if possible, but they just were not identical, and I had moral qualms about it.

The benefit of having overcrowded shelves is that you just don't notice how bad the chrome is behind all the other figures on the shelf, so it actually looks pretty good (I will be posting updated shelf pics in the next week). I am happy with my decision. I was considering displaying the KO version in lion form, but I just don't have the room, and I need the money. Besides, I took one of the arm heads to complete the Popy version, and as I mentioned, I already removed the black lion's wings.

Just curious how everyone else felt about owning the real deal versus a better looking KO.

I would agree with you because of 2 reasons. 1)Like you said, you at least know that the Golion on yourself is the real deal. 2)The real deal might have chrome wear but I would venture to say that chrome wear you can fix, changing the KO to the real deal is not fixable. Just my two cents.................

The legs can be swapped from a knockoff lionbot to a golion, as I was contemplating on doing so with a golion I had in my possession. Problem is the Taiwan versions are not produced within the same tolerances as the Japanese versions, so joints will not be as stiff overtime and will be floppy especially at the feet. The popy version also has a ball bearing in the tail of the green and red lions giving it a nice click when forming the robot. Take apart your knockoff green or red and you will see a cheap tension swivel system. Keep it all original because the main draw of the popy version is in the fit and finish and overall quality in how the pieces fit. Plus it will be worth more that way. By the way, check to see if yours has the red stickers/chrome arm joints to see if its first gen.

I don't own either of these. I would rather get the Popy, but that is because I am a wh*re for the brand. As far as knockoffs are concerned, I like the funk. Keep em both!

but voltron never had a v it had a star just like the popy.

I'd also go with the popy for the same and only reason that
at least you know its not a knockoff.

It's like choosing to display either a real painting on your wall as opposed to displaying a print of that painting ..... the choice is clear, no matter how broken-down the orignial is.

I think mine is the best, no doubt about it. See how I've infused all their Taiwanese powers together with a tube of crazy glue?

Its next appearance will be on ebay. I will start the bidding at $5.00 for a 5 day duration. Any guesses on how much it will go for?

Pretty funny, rayar. I see you even used the lion's legs to go into the spaceship Gunper. You might get something for it, but I think most bidders will just be going for the Gunper alone. Good luck!
