I keep seeing gatchaman toys on sale but being not familiar with the show nor with the toys, can anyone brief me a bit about gatchaman? and if I want to collect the toys, which one should I begin with? since there seem to several version of the toys. I still don't know what Gatchaspaltan has anything to do with the Gatchaman.

Gatchaman is credited with establishing the five person team format poularised in Sentai shows. There were three series; Gatchaman, Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F. The first was adapted into Battle of the Planets, and later G-Force, for western audiences. Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F were released by Saban as Eagle Riders. More info can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_Ninja_Team_GatchamanAs for the toys, there's plenty to choose from. A lot had western releases so there are several box variations to conted with as well. The Popy DX Gatchaspaltan can sell for in the region of $700 - $1000 USD for a good complete one. Popy also released several smaller diecast toys as well as a set of 10cm (3 3/4") action figures an some Mego style dolls. Eidai released a whole load of diecast vehicles in the Grip series. There's also the recent Unifive Godphoenix and a selection of figures etc.

Wow, always been a huge Gatchaman fan, but haven't found too many resources out there on the comprehensive list of vintage Gatchaman toys.
Are the above toys the main selection of Gatchaman toys?

Big thanks to venson1969! Like emerson, I've been a longtime Gatchaman fan, but haven't really found a good resource for the vintage toys until now. In fact, I haven't really seen a lot of that cool vintage stuff until now. Thanks for making me extremely envious. Haha.

For the vehicles from the original series, there were diecasts made by Grip of G-1 through G-5 and the God Phoenix, and a couple of "Jumbo Grip" plastic toys, as well as several plastic model kits produced by Bandai. There were also several vinyl figures of the characters and vehicles by Banso, and other misc. items. Little know fact: several Popy's Popinica diecasts from GATCHAMAN II were sold in the U.S. via Toys R Us in 1979 by Bandai America.

Hey venson, you're missing one... That's the super rare flaming Godphenix!! Its a red version of the DX one. Good luck trying to find it, much less find one at an affordable price. Here's another that's a little more common, though still hard to find. Its the big scale plastic Godphenix. There are a lot of sites out there with comprehensive compilations of Gatchaman toys. Here are some of the rarer ones I've come across on ebay:

This one was on YHJ. I forgot the closing price, but I think it was in that range (about 600,000 yen). Here's a few more big scale bases:
