Picked this up a couple of weeks ago and it just arrived (Sorry for the less than stellar photography as I'm still learning). I was a little dissapointed, as none of the 3 spring firing mechanism's for the ships work (trying to figure out how to Macguyver them but not sure if doable ). Also, looks like someone took a magnifying glass or similar and put a few marks in an area, as it has some melted holes(see at the base right rear) - probably a kid wanting to see some damage after a heavy battle. On the plus side, the ships are very good and the box is pretty fair also with a little fading and some wear, but generally decent with both cello's in tact. Couple of shots vs PA-48 for scale reference Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm generally happy with it but........must get those firing springs to work!!!!!! ;D

Great find! The rubber bands under the launching pads are probably deteriorated. They can be repaired with an assorted spring kit from Harbor Freight and pair of needle nose pliers. The springs are light duty so they won't break any plastic or you can install rubber bands.

I think bases are cool, underachievers. I don't know why the manufacturers don't make enough and more of them. Every time they do, it sells out while the demand is still hot. Nice score OP.
BTW, your pic looks a tad over exposed, I know you are still learning, so is every other photographer. If a photog ever tells you that they are no longer learning, they are either pompous and arrogant or disillusioned. Anyway, if you drop the exposure a tad it will look fine. I thought I'd lend you a hint.

Actually, after playing around with the picture a bit, it looks like your flash is too hot. Use a diffuser, what camera/flash are you using? the hard shadows is caused by the flash being waay to strong, bounce it for a softer shadow. I played around with it a bit and here's my edit, I hope you don't mind:

Thanks for the complements, and especially the tips mechaboy1 and 00silvergt. I will definitely be using them! It didn't help my shots that there was a potlight almost directly above the base, but will work on it for next time. BTW I'm using a Canon powershot s400 - I've had it for years, but never had to take detail/close pics and worry about lighting etc. until now.
And yeah silvergt, I think these bases are very cool. Always liked them from the minute I knew of their existence, but couldn't afford them for a number of years due to mortgage/kids etc. Would love for them to release modern versions - I would be on those in a heartbeat, but won't hold my breath (but the new big falcon was a good sign).
Cheers, Bill

Actually, if it only a spot light, then put a piece tracing paper in front of it to diffuse or soften the light.

LOL guys. Well it would be cool to make them look like that, but I don't have CS3 and know even less with that than basic photography at this point. One day though

I had that when I was a kid. It came with 3" high cut-outs of the villians and small circle plastic bases to stand them up with. The missile launcher on top broke, but overall I had a whole lot of fun with it. It's what made me a Getter Robo fan.
