Well, that may change... slowly but surely.
It depends on people's interest in this toy line,
as well as a matter of time and money.
Believe me, I would love to spend more of my free time, and money,
to modify and custom-bash Revoltech figures all over the place.
But I get bored too easy too soon and then I wanna move on to other activities. lol
-----------------------
Customizing stuff with Revoltech figures is the unsung hero,
the "Silent Hill", of this hobby.
The following below are my personal observations as to why we don't see
much activity in the Revoltech market and in the custom-figures "best-kept secret"
hangouts of this hobby:
1> Super-robot Revoltechs aren't as popular with the mainstream anime crowd
as we had initially expected; because some robot Revoltech sculpts
turned out looking disappointing to fans, due to anime inaccuracy
and also due to falling short of fans' individual appeals.
If you've never had any Super-robot Revoltech figures and have ONLY been
seeing them in pictures, your Opinion or Liking to these figures may
change in either direction once you've owned your first Revoltech figure.
You'll either Love them, have Mixed feelings about them, or you'll Hate them...
...and that is subject Per Revoltech figure, because some are better than others.
Remember, this toy line has its Hits and Misses. lol
2> The super-robot era generation is a slow dying breed... those of
us who grew up watching these classic robot anime shows are now grown
old and gray, some of us are retired in years, and some of us are
almost at the brink of extinction... we're passing the torch forward,
but not many new runners are taking that torch anywhere or even burning
sh*t along the way.
The younger generation are fans of modern-day anime shows and so they've
got That torch to bear for their future years to come.
Heck, a great majority of my followers at Facebook have never even
heard of "Tobor, The 8th Man" ! (smhid)
3, and very hurtful> Revoltech figures are snubbed off, ignored, and
looked down upon as the "
poor man's collector toy".
That elitist mentality is discouraging fans from exploring this toy-line
and it is also killing this market.
Yeah, that same elitist mentality who snubbed Banpresto toys years ago
but are now aching to collect a Banpresto anything so they can sell it
on eBay for outrageous prices.
That same elitist "My Collection is Better than Thou's" mentality.
Since when the fk has this hobby become an Aristocracy?!
...To down-cast a segment of this community with a toy-line into
a "sub standard" category is what I would call discriminatory, and childish behavior.
It's like the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors all looking down on the Freshmen.
That kind of mentality makes me feel insulted.
I've been a fan of the anime character most of my life and some elitist
has the nerve to tell me my 'station' in this hobby?! GTFOH!
To the elitist mentality I'll say this in simple English:
Never mind YOU.
Why? Never mind YOU, that's why.
In this hobby, WE ALL started out as Freshmen. Remember that.
4> With the SRC line now flourishing, fans are flocking over to the
high quality of solid die-cast and hard ABS plastic accompanied by
a sh*t-load of accessories per SRC figure. Hey, I would, too. Why not!
The SRC is one helluva bad-ass toy-line with good quality specimens.
However, the SRC's downside is that you can't simply disassemble
an SRC figure to bash it with parts from other SRC figures
(
unless you're willing to mutilate $60-$70 SRCs to scrap
in order to re-create your own custom robot figures)...
...to do so means to cut and bore through every bolt and rivet
at the SRCs articulation points, since most of those areas are
not held together by nut-and-bolt design.
If you can afford multiples of the same toy to do that,
or if you're lucky enough to find beaters and broken SRCs,
more power to you.
Revoltechs are a little more forgiving, Financially and Physically.
That just depends on Which Revoltech line figure you buy.
Because some of the earlier Revoltechs are now becoming more
pricey and scarce.
Revoltech figures are like high-tech "Legos" and then some extra mileage:
You can kit-bash them with other Revoltech figures and parts;
and you can modify them with just about Anything outside their toy-line,
thanks to their hard-rubber and ABS plastic material.
You can take any old discarded plastic junk stuff around the house or
from a dumpster, and make Revoltech figure accessories and weapons,
all from scratch.
You can even use Revoltech joints and parts to make everyday useful
gadgets and objects such as webcam tripods, desktop gadgets,
Stop-Motion figures...
Hey- I even made a
drawing compass with a Bic pen, a plastic rod,
and a 6mm Revo joint!
Can you do that with other toy-lines? Yeah Right, I thought so.
--------------------------
There ya have it, my personal observations about the Revoltech line.
I hope this toy line continues.
I like the Revoltech toy-line for all the cool things I can do with it.
