I was thinking about "sanding down" those sharp edges with fine grit sandpaper, making them rounder so they are less prone to scratching the painted surfaces. Are the edges plastic or diecast? Also, does the DAIMOS come in robot form out of the box or TRANZER? I am not planning to transform the robot mode much...

AWESOME review!
Daimos looks absolutely fantastic, and that arsenal is bordering on the rediculous.
My only real lament:

Amazing review as usual Gold! But I wonder why Bandai wouldn't use red plastic and paint the parts white where needed, white shows scratches much less and is a much easier fix than colour matching red. Still an awesome figure!
But I need to give a shout out for Akira Kamiya, he is one of the BIGGEST reasons I love Super Robots and could possibly have THE perfect voice for it!

Hey Gold!
Awesome review as always!
The Tranzer picture (under "Tranzer go!"), the front wheels (Tranzer's right side), doesn't seem to be touching the floor / ground. Is it really like that, or the wheels simply weren't adjusted properly when the pic was taken?
I'm probably going to get this for the Tranzer mode only, so I hope if I keep it in Tranzer mode, there aren't any visible problems with it (save for the plastic whhels--sigh).
Thanks!

By the way, how does Daimos look on the stand in robot mode? Is it large enough to put all three on it (Daimos, Com-Battler, Voltes)?

Well there's a ton of good sellers on Ebay, I usually look for the ones with at least 5,000 feedback and for me Toysonline or Etrade have been decent but I am NOT vouching for them just incase something happens. As for customs that depends on how the seller ships it, if the declared value is say $100 bucks you can expect a 15-20% surcharge. But I have never paid since most of my packages are listed as Gifts or toys but it's been awhile since I've bought anything so the Postal service may have wisen up to that loophole. okay thanks guys! I was in pacific mall today and they had daimos for $260...one shop had it for $280! just crazy, I'll take my chances getting stuff via ebay!

Great reviews from Roboto and Gold! I just bought one from ebay, just $167 including EMS shipping + 3 months free browsing of Japanese mags like Hobby Japan, and Dengeki. Nice deal than other online stores and other ebay sellers. vic01

Thanks for the kind words guys. }D The edges are plastic but I don't recommend sanding them down as this will cause it to become too thin. The edges that scratch the waist part aren't really sharp per se but they tend to scrape deeply against the waist when you close all of the Tranzer mode's cover plates. One's tendency will be to rest thumbs on that area while trying to close the other panels. It's like trying to put on a very, very, very tight pair of jeans/pants. The friction is all near the belly button area ;D Luckily, taping the area is a sufficient enough of a solution. BTW yes the Daimos comes in robot mode right out of the box (Thank goodness!) and ready for play (just remember to pull out the feet first ) Hey Gold! Thanks! Thanks Omni, good eye, I didn't notice that when I was sorting the pics, but yes, in the photo, the Tranzer cab is slightly tilted more clockwise making the right side's wheels "float". But a minor twist counter clockwise and the wheels should be flat on the ground. There aren't any real problems with the Tranzer. The truck rolls around okay enough. The front cab doesn't do turns though unlike the popy vintage toy. It does feel a bit small and there aren't any real gimmicks apart from the Daimo Missile ports flipping out of the sides. By the way, how does Daimos look on the stand in robot mode? Is it large enough to put all three on it (Daimos, Com-Battler, Voltes)? Thanks Chen, hehe indeed, a shout out for Akira Kamiya is called for. He does such awesome, awesome dub work and he sings too The display stand is a bit small, it just holds Daimos in robot mode. Daimos in robot mode on the display stand. The feet hang over the edge. It's still stable enough to pose Daimos on though. AWESOME Review Gold!!!! So is it me, or does the tranzer look very PVC bendy/warpy/wavy? Thanks Ed, I guess the bent front cannons give the Tranzer a bit of a PVC look. Gold

Tranzer so far is the only thing going for this toy for me. Maybe it's just me, but the GoDaikin Tranzer has more personality than the SOC version. Thanks for the info Gold!

Sigh, no matter how careful you are, Daimos will scratch whenever you transform it into Tranzer. Click on the images to view larger pics. Very special thanks to Roboto for warning us about this and the headsup for using the tape to cover up the trouble spots. The first scratch came already with the toy. Other highly possible scratch risk areas! This edge will cause scrapping on the left shoulder. - HIGHEST SCRATCH ALERT! This is by far the biggest trouble spot I see, expect to carve out a good chunk of this spot's paint if you're not careful. I STRONGLY recommend using 3M Magic tape to tape down the trouble spots before transforming it into Tranzer to protect the surfaces from scratches! You can also use regular Scotch Tape but it tends to leave sticky residue.
Last night I got a call from another fellow SOC collector telling me that his GX-43 Daimos has major scratch defects. The store he bought it from allowed him to open three boxes (Hong Kong and Japan versions) and they all had scratches either on the paint or plastic. My friend is really pissed off. It's been three times in a row that he's gotten SOCs with poor qc: the first one was with God Mars; the second was Reideen, and now it's Diamos! Man, I feel sorry for the guy. Anyway, he was planning to directly contact Bandai, but their website says to contact their local distributor for service or product exchanges. Well, since scratch defects with the GX-43 aren't isolated to just a few batches, my friend and other fellow collectors have suggested that we all band together and write to Bandai and tell them to step up their quality control. In the meantime, enjoy these two pictures courtesy of Howza. Possible Recolor?
