Is there a difference between the Japanese GB-88 and the Taiwanese GB-88? I know the Taiwanese release is authorized by Popy and is considered legit. Aside from the box is there any difference between the actual toy?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

uberrider, I'm no expert, but from the many that I've looked at for auction, all show the "Made in Taiwan" logo on one side of the box. I've never seen one listed that had a "Made in Japan" on the box. Hope someone can vouch otherwise. Mabye Taiwan was the main place these came from. However, (drumroll) on my set, on the back of MajinSphinx, it's printed in one spot "NTV Japan 1982" , as well as Popy logo, and other Japanese script. This may just be a television company mark, not manufacturing origin. BTW, on mine, the only major markings are on Sphinx only, and not much on the other component bots, unlike the DX GodMarz, where each bot is labeled GB-56 through GB-61. Hope some of that helps.

Actually, I picked up a (VERY!) used gb-88 custom on yahoo auctions a while ago that is marked made in Japan on the both the box and robots.

Ah, yes! Questions bring intel out of the bushes. Thanks nigels. I see the Taiwan version has a square, white w/red print sticker on the lower right corner of the box front. There's one each ,Japan, and Taiwan on ebay now, and the pics show the same thing with the sticker, as does my Taiwan set, except mine has the sticker on top/center, where there's a space next to the words "Custom Type Series". Also, I see nigels set has an actual Japanese Popy logo on the box parts, whereas, mine & uberrider's sets have some other square red logo in the same spot, and no Popy logo. Could that be the mark of Popy's cooperative manufacturer in Taiwan?
GAH! Totaly geeked out on this post. HA!

nigels: Do you know if the actual robots in the First Taiwanese release Godmarz Custom is identical to the Japanese counterpart. Does the Japanese one have the sticker / made in japan stamped on each robot?
I will take pics of my sets later for comparison. Just wondering if the Japanese one is worth collecting if I already have the Taiwanese one.

This is the only "Japan" marking on the figures (sphinx). I will post photos of the rest of my set when I have some more time.
