LOL! No prob, I should have indicated that in the post! ;D Thinking about a A Borg purchase, eh? You should do it! Join us! LOL! No seriously. These things are so awesome and so versatile. It really allows you to the ability to create different variations. I completely understand about the cash situation though. Lots of other cool things in the toy world. I'm definitely thinking of buying the next vehicle set that comes out. Plus the Barrels speeder comes with TONS of revo joints. Here's what else I did with Mr Assemble. Click the pic to go to the blog for more.

man see this is what im talking about, not only do we have to spend a fortune on an assemble borg but now we are gonna have to go buy doubles of other revlos to make these awesome custom pieces!! man kaiyado has us by the balls. To make a series where the more you have the more you can do, a limited release is just crazy!!.
But i tell you, i would of never thought of combining parts like that. Brochen and Mr A. sweet set, would like to see a mix with Griffon, or as some one suggested, the wings of the Angel Evangelion!! man the possibilites!!

Well, in all fairness, they (Kaiyodo) didn't necessarily initially intend for this to be a limited release. There are a number of factors that inevitably contributed to this current state though...
Assemble Borg is a brand new property, therefore getting domestic (in this case that being Japanese) shops and/or distributors to buy into it is one thing, getting foreign (in this case anyone outside of Japan) to invest in an unproven and unlicensed toyline would be difficult at best and could have ended tragically for Kaiyodo in the long run had they not been careful.
The only real choice for them up front was to test the market and try to rally some interest in the property. They are indeed doing both of these things by keeping the initial production run slim (test run), and at the same time the hope is that word of mouth will create interest in the property (whether domestic or foreign). On the foreign end that includes finding a US distributor who is interested in carrying a collector oriented original property.
If they can generate the interest then hopefully that will mean much better availability and therefore much better prices on this end. If they can't generate enough hype and interest (either domestic or foreign) to further support the line, then they've lost very little in their attempt, since they will undoubtedly sell (or have already sold) the entire production run up to this point.
If they had gone hog wild and produced a normal production run, which it seems as of late that more common figures like Enki aren't even receiving the full normal treatment of (not to mention the numerous other even more exclusive releases that we've seen as of late)...anyway, if they had produced a large production run, and then collector/consumer interest was nowhere near where they had projected it to be, it could have spelled disaster for a company that has already been having numerous problems as of late...
Keep in mind, Kaiyodo has had some (rumored) financial issues as of late (who hasn't in the current economy though), appears to be going through an acquisition by Good Smile Corp, has their lead sculptor (and as I recall the creator of the Assemble Borg property) on hiatus, and who has clearly been suffering from all of the Chinese factory closings like so many other toy manufacturers...
To this day there are generally anywhere from 10 to 20 posts made to the Assemble Borg Laboratory site on a given day. With how limited the production run on these were and the even more limited distribution, I'm hoping that bodes well for the future of the line, but only time will tell...

If Kaiyodo can get these to the U.S. consumer at approx $20-25 USD a pop for figures, perhaps a little more for vehicles if they are larger and chromed, and for around $10 USD for the boxes of the accessory ball-joints - then I am all over this line.
Basically, I am asking for pricing at a similar price point to regular Revoltechs. If that can be achieved then I feel they can overtake what must be the fairly lucrative market Microman has locked on. I stopped buying Microman because of quality control and fragility issues. By contrast I have had more than one Revo take a header off a 4-5 foot high shelf and be completely undamaged - not even a paint chip.
Plan B for Kaiyodo should be to form an alliance with the makers of Microman. Takara/Microman has legs in the marketplace, but they desperately need the quality control and innovations of the Revoltech line. Microman are beautiful, well-designed toys that fall apart under the smallest amounts of use. I've had figures collapse and break apart at the joints merely because I have placed them in an interesting pose for display. They just fell apart right there on the shelf! As it stands, I just refuse to buy Microman any longer
That empty space in my buying habits made room for ownership of what must be 3/4 of the entire Revoltech line, including limited editions too. I don't have the Eva minis, nor some of the limited eds, nor the Fist of the North Star. Other than that, I have the greater majority of them. MY GF is now the happy owner of most of the Fraulien line as well. We play with these together.

hmm they still making micormen? i think there must be some kind of back alley deal with these and micro men, in fact with kaiyado in general. they are doing a lot of lines micorman took on. Microman did aliens vs predator, batman, evangellion (but who hasent at this point), and i think they had a female line of figures as well. Now kaiyado is doing many of the same things albiet a crap load better. but honestly, the assemble borgs are almost direct copies of micromen, and if they dont have a deal going, maybe thats why they are releasing them as exculisves to avoid a legal battle, or pending agreements between the two. hmmm

Well, I apparently got lucky...
I have a couple sets of the Baron and Saber figures on their way from Image Anime...but now they are listed as being "Pre-Order" items again.
So, on the plus side, I'm apparently not the only one insane enough to buy these at this price, and (at least on some level) interest in this line is picking up enough that IA was able to sell out of their first shipment...though, admittedly, no one really knows how many pieces they received in their first shipment...
On the downside, I still haven't had time to post any of the (probably 100+) pictures that I've taken of the sets and/or my customs...and now I have even more pictures to take, and even more items to customize with. Fortunately, I have some down time this coming weekend, so maybe I'll be able to make some headway with all of this...

It's almost as if you have a life outside of figure collecting! What a pain! LOL! Kidding. I know what you mean though. So many variations. So little time! ;D

Well, the weekend hasn't gone exactly as planned, so I only have a quick update for the moment. I received my two sets of Baron and Cyber...yes CYBER, NOT SABER as has been advertised for months now...yesterday afternoon...
I haven't opened any of them yet since I wanted to setup my macro studio and take in package shots (and progress shots) as I opened the first set, but they look great, even better than I had initially expected.
I really like their extra parts a lot, in some ways more-so than Mr. Assembles extra parts...admittedly though, these feel a little skimpy parts wise when compared to Mr. Assemble. I also like the head designs much more than I had initially anticipated (probably more than Mr. Assemble even), but I really dislike Baron's chest piece...it's very stylized and bizarre in comparison to the other two.
Well, I'm off to open these, hopefully I'll have more to share before the end of the weekend...

yeah cc is out of commission already... Huh? Forgive me for asking, but what do you mean by "cc" ? *Edit* WOW, I feel like an idiot. CC=credit card, and you were replying to my own post. I guess I just panicked that one of the Assemble Borg figures was discontinued. I'm going to go cry in a corner now.
