Thanks for all the replies everyone! It's very much appreciated! I'll post some pictures of the other stuff I have. This is a Godaikin Combattra. It's missing one of the fists and has some wear from when my brother played with it many years ago, but it still looks pretty decent.

Awesome toys to rediscover. That boxed Combattler is one of my favorites. I only have this toy loose with no box.

Ditto on blue box Combattra. Great display piece.
Now, I'm laughing at how on the Shogun box, the picture on the box, you clearly see the wing is written with "HelicaptOr", and right next to it the box print says, "Heli-captEr" ha! They couldn't even get the spelling right twice, on the same box! Classic reasons these things are fun to have.

Bet that was cool digging all that stuff up after all those years!
Even though the toy is identical, I much prefer the Japanese box version you have. Just look at the way they laid the toy out in the tray compared to the version I have. Excellent!

Truly great find, all complete in nice box, and the vehicles themselves all look mint. Look at those missile packs, untouched, you have to love that....
I really like little details, and one thing I really like about this set, is the attachable wings that lock onto the individual racecars, and the one called the power screw with the fan blades, so makes me think of one of my childhood favorites and a collectible I plan to pursue down the road, the Micronault space glider....
Same thing with the Shogun Heli-captor, lol....

So there's this guy on Ebay selling a supposed mint, NOS, Gattaiga set, but here's the catch. The box is sealed by "the person" he bought it from 20 years ago and he wont open it up to verify all the contents are there, let alone verify its even in there. Has anyone seen this set come sealed from Takatoku? And even then, the seal sure seems to be in extremely nice condition for its age. I'm also taking into consideration his "not that great" feedback rating. I consider myself a serious buyer of this set but to not be able to see what's inside at all? He's located very near where I live so I would love for this to be as perfect as he claims it to be but.... www.ebay.com/itm/291041463632?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I've never seen the set sealed, but doesn't mean it never happened. However, if I'm going to drop $2k+ on a toy, I would need to see it to verify it's completeness and that there hasn't been any degradation (ie - yellowed plastic etc.). It doesn't help that his description is taken straight from the one from Ed's Morphy's listing last year. I say get pic's of the toy, or let it pass. For that kind of money, a MIB one can be had (where the toy can actually be seen ).

So if the Gattiger set was opened and all the pieces and accessories were in tact and mint would you still pay the asking price? There's a reason why it remains sealed...to get the highest price?

This is the same set - same pictures at least - as mentioned above - presumably it didn't sell previously. The problem I have with this toy is that it's not sealed, it's wrapped. The cellophane isn't 'factory'. As also mentioned above, if it was indeed wrapped by a previous seller 20 years ago (and not by the factory), then it isn't any more sealed than if it were wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. Therefore, the wrapper doesn't affect the value at all, and therefore, opening it up and verifying its contents would really help the sale.

If I'm going to pay a premium price for something that was sealed by who knows who then hell yeah I want to see what's inside. That "wrapping" adds nothing to the value...

So if the Gattiger set was opened and all the pieces and accessories were in tact and mint would you still pay the asking price? There's a reason why it remains sealed...to get the highest price? You just registered for this site and bumped this topic. What is your interest in this set all of a sudden? Are you trying to buy one? You sound like you're the eBay seller and that you're fishing for both a buyer and a reason to justify your asking price. Please don't be offended - I'm not attacking you - just stating my observations based on your very vague comments, but if I'm right, then you should know that we have plenty of people come here and wave expensive toys in our faces looking for money - it happens all the time. We've all been collecting for a very long time and don't just jump at random items, especially when there is significant money involved. If you really are the seller, you seem to have an idea of what you have, but as has been explained to you by other members - these (and many other early Japanese toys ) have never come "sealed" like other toys do. Someone wrapped that toy at some point in time to protect the box, plain and simple. That method is typical of common ways to protect large size items like this. This set comes with so many items - cars, accessories, instruction booklet, missile packs and the poster and overlay, someone would be completely foolish to buy it sight unseen. And if it matters, I own one of these sets, just like many people here do, so I know what I am talking about. If it is your set and you really want to sell it, there is a more straightforward approach for you to take. We are all very honest here, and if you really want to sell it we can happily give you advice on the best way to do it. The same goes if you are a collector trying to buy a set as well. Just be upfront with us. It's a great set to own.
