Does anyone know/recollect details behind the Takara cars that are magnemo and "transform" to robots? These are battery op cars labeled, I think, under some "Giancomo" or the like branding.
Takara made these in the early to mid 70's I beleive.
Thanks for details.

The Titan series figures are some of the best made Microman. I've got a boxed T471 Phios and a loose T441 Icarus. These figures are Magnemo-8 with magnetic joints that make them very poseable. They mix well with other magnemo figures, in particular the 6 new Magne Force Microman and Acroyear. www.microforever.com/2005Achilles.htm www.microforever.com/2005Phobos.htm There are more magnemo figures in the vintage lines and figures from other Takara toys that are compatable too. As for the Cars, I only have the one from the boxed T471, and I don't remember being very excited by it. I don't think it is battery powered but I don't really remember. It's in storage now but I took many pictures of the whole package when I first got it. I'll find them and post them, I'm sure I've also got some pics for the Takara "action" thread, just need the time to find them and post.

The Gimca car line was a cross-over with the Titan Command Microman series. The cars were Hot Wheels-like and modular, and there was a seperate module you could buy that would swap out the rear wheels and "cockpit" with a large battery-powered motor. Kind of a neat concept. These weren't the first Microman figures that "changed" to cars, but they had a more blocky, bulky robotic appearance that seems to be another step in evolution of the line towards a the "Transformer look".

There was also a set made for these motorized Gimca cars which is similar in layout to a Hot Wheels track. The Gimca car that came with the set had the battery powered rear wheels and the front wheels were able to be locked in either right turn, left turn or in a straight ahead position.

I also forgot to add that the motor in the Gimca car can be removed from the car in case you have multiple front ends so you can swap out front ends of the cars. The Gimca cars sold with the Microman Titans do not have removable rear wheels but they do have the two screws for the magnets of the Titan rider to attach to. These screws are covered by a tranparent canopy which slides over the screws. The magnets on the Titans are very strong. The Titan Command Base also has a storage compartment for 4 Gimca cars while their robotic drivers are placed in position on the base. There is also an ejector device on the Titan Command Base that is specifically made for the Gimca cars. The car is placed in top compartment on the base and pushed onto a spring loaded lever that shoots the car when the trigger it tripped. The Titans are a great addition to the Microman line which I believe could have been expanded. There is also a Gimca car that is included in the Titans group which really does not fit because it is really just a plane instead of a robot but Takara even gave these two car/planes names among the Titan series.
