1st Ver. Popy Tetsujin SG-01 ??????

Is there such a thing as version 1 of Popy Tetsujin SG-01? or version 2 for that matter?

There IS a difference between the Japanese and US versions. The eyes in the Japanese box, or first version, do not have any paint around them to mask out a perfect circle. It is all unpainted.

I was told about the face as well but I thought the seller was just bluffing. At first, I thought there is a Popy version 1 and Popy version 2 but never heard or read about this before

Also, I read somewhere that the color of Popy SG-01 is different (slightly darker) than the Godaikin one. Is it true?

I've not noticed any color change. We often find that flash photos vs. using ambient light change the picture hue.

So far no one has proven the color changes to me. But heck, I've never opened my godaikin and SG at the same time and held them side by side..... storage issues...

Yes, there is a color difference. The first version has a lighter color blue plastic and the Godaikin has a more navy blue looking plastic. I just checked and the eye thing checks out as well.

Hi. As i know from the board in Thailand. There r 3 different things for T28 Japan Version 1 and 2.(Just for information may be more...Idon't know)
1. Color at the Letter at the front BOX( 1st Red, 2nd Pink)
2.The colour of the cover part robot(1st light blue, 2nd more dark)
3. Eye of the robot (2nd is alittle bigger as you will see in the pics)

And Godaikin version is the same as 2nd japan box.
Anyway, I wish i have only one for this legent robot.

Nice to know, thanks nongoh. Couple of things to clarify though:

1. In your pictures, are you sure they are the right order - you say 1st version is light blue, but the second pic(that you say is 2nd version) I think is lighter than the first pic.

2. Are you sure it's not just color fading on the box letters, rather than red/pink variation?

Anyway, regardless, thanks for showing the variations of the versions. I will not be picking one up soon, but when I'm ready it's good to have the info.

Hmmm... The eye paint/plastic masking (smaller eye as you noted it) is present on the Godaikin. It is also present on the version you have noted as 1st. SO I wonder if the order of first and second is switched.

I really don't think they would add a mask, remove it, then add it back for the Godaikin.

I have a pink lettered box without the eye masking (big eyes). This conflicts with the versions you noted.

Maybe Erik will chime in here.

Also, my version with the big eyes has different colors depending on how it is photographed. I kind of wonder about these color variations being flash settings. Yes, Erik has overruled me on this.

I can confirm the eyes are smaller on my Godaikin version.

I am not convinced about version 1 vs 2 vs the Godaikin coloration. I still feel like the "big" non-masked eyes were version #1.

I'm totally confused... Much like many other conversations about multiple color/plastic variations in the Popy lineage, it could have just been a run that got the eyes with no masking that week or the lighter plastic another week etc etc etc.. Will we ever really know?? Probably not.

I'm pretty sure that the blue is the same color throught the toy run. I've had this conversation many times.

My photo comparison is pretty convincing as to showing how the same toy can show light to dark, eh?

I have one with light blue plastic and one with dark blue plastic. Clearly different colors. Who knows which came first. Who really cares...
