In a word: I suck! I got my arse kicked by almost everyone that jumped in, heck Zangief gave me a hard time, and he was CPU controlled. Actually, the computer seems very strong with grappling characters like Zangief, and especially Abel.

I preordered the PS3 CE from Amazon. A few days after launch, I get an email telling me they're "still trying to get (it)", with an estimated shipping date of 03/24/09 (!!!)
I'm sure they pulled that date out of their $*%. What it probably means is that they don't know when they'll get it, IF they ever get it at all. That sucks.

I'll send out another game invite to you if I see you on silver. Still working on some of the timing with this game. Try the challenges, as they teach you how to do some of the combos for all the characters. Some EB game, Funcoland and Gamestops are like that. It's not the manufactures, the store manager is just super cheap. I have a friend that worked at one gamestop store and his manager always short order on the games. That store only get so many copies then orders the rest when they cash out from the first run of pre-orders. The only good thing about getting the game from EBGAMES/Gamestop is that they give out the free headband.
Of all the characters they have in this game, the one I dislike the most is El Funtes. I don't know what the purpose of adding such a character to the game. His attacks doesn't do much damage and his Super/Ultra move is hard to connect. Only 4 more characters to unlock, Gouken, Akuma, Seth, and Dan.

I wonder what'll happen with my pre-order on Resident Evil 5. I order from the Canadian version of Amazon, but still. As for further experience with the game, yes, I agree with all over you guys: there are serious balance issues with the different characters. I can play a decent Arcade mode on Medium but then Abel, Zangief, and Seth... they're just impossible! Even on Easiest mode (that's a couple of settings below Medium), while I wipe the floor with everyone, as soon as Abel shows up, he grabs and counters every single attack I do... and if I beat him, then suddenly I'm back to kicking everybody else's AI butts. Ridiculous! As for pre-order screw-ups in general. EB/Gamestops in my area were also reporting shipments missing and same for Microplay (a smaller chain that specializes in rentals). What I really hate is the fact that pre-orders would be a great idea... IF THEY WORKED. One of the EB idiots told me he hated when people whined that they should get games cheaper if they pre-order. I so wanted to punch him out with a Shoryuken! I don't see how a store that takes a pre-order can lose out. They are getting a guarantee that they have made a sale. In fact, they are getting a guarantee plus the fact they also get a cash-inflow weeks or months in advance because the customer is giving them a deposit up-front. Whereas, for a customer who doesn't pre-order could just as easily go somewhere else - that's a net -100% sale by comparison to the person who pre-ordered! So between -100% and maybe, I don't know a few bucks discount, I don't see why they shouldn't entice people to pre-order... ...but of course, this whole idea only works... IF YOU GET THE FEAKING GAME YOU PRE-ORDERED!

Yeah, the whole preorder system at EB/Gamestop is pretty terrible. Actually, the whole shopping experience isn't very good across the entire corporation. The stock usually isn't good, the prices can be high (the profit margin on their used games is HUGE), and the stores I'm in are usually a jumbled mess with everything unorganized and 3-4 employees hanging out by the counter. And if you actually find something worth buying, you inevitably get the corporate mandated "don't you want to preorder something?" speech at checkout. In general it's not a very consumer friendly company. It's really unfortunate that they're gaining such a stranglehold on the retail gaming business. I do most of my game shopping on Amazon these days, occasionally resorting to eBay for older used stuff.

Hello from Amazon.ca.
We're sorry to report we won't be able to obtain the following item from your order: "Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition" @*&%# !!! Let me paraphrase this : "Thank you for trusting us all this time and not going to another outlet because you though we were a knowledgeable respectable compagny who knew what they were doing. Now, we'll make it sound like we're doing you a favor by not charging for something you'll never get and let you go get raped on eBay because there's no way you'll get it anywhere else after all this time." On a second thought, it's not so bad. While I was waiting for Amazon to send out my order, I downloaded that "Ties that Bind" animated movie. It was... erm... quite a letdown, to stay polite.

Well, I finally got it yesterday. The visual style is really growing on me, but boy can the AI be frustrating. I still don't quite feel in control...I think I'm still too used to SFII. I'm still trying to figure out how Zangeif and Seth can cancel a jumping fierce kick to the face with a throw when my foot is already overlapping their sprite/model. Argh.
So far I'm 1/5 online.

Just wanted to update you guys... but over the weekend visiting my folks in my hometown (Sherbrooke Quebec) I stumbled on those SF4-themed Madcatz Fightpads. The EB-Games there always seem to have hard-to-find-elsewhere items. Maybe people in Sherbrooke just don't want to pay for premium items? They also had a Fightstick but I'm going to save my money and take a chance that I will eventually find the Tournament Edition Fightstick.
Anyway, gave the new controller a spin last night. First weird thing: the inside of the battery-cover has a rubbery pad which rubs against the battery as you slide the cover back on... which can also mess with the battery contact. So you gotta be careful and jiggle it into place. Once I got it working I could only say, I'm real happy with it. Oversized D-pad is a little floaty (but so smooth to work with). The controller overall is a little bigger than the normal Dualshock3/Sixaxis so it will take a bit of getting used to.
One thing I'm not sure off... so I'm going to throw it out there... anybody have this glitch? While I was playing, at one point, my character started walking to the left. As if the D-pad was stuck. However, since I could press the Home button to get back to the PS3's XMB menu and it didn't flip right over to the Shutdown option (the furthest item on the left of the XMB) I can only assume it was an in-game glitch and not the Fightpad doing that. After a moment, I tried turning off the controller and turning it back on, but nothing. And then after a moment, it went back to normal. How bizarre.
Edit: well it seems I was wrong - the glitch is indeed the Madcatz Fightpad. It happened again today after I was playing for about half and hour when suddenly, the controller wouldn't stop sending a "D-pad right" signal sending my character running straight into the opponent's attacks. And when I pressed the home button, the XMB slid right over to the Friends List on the far right. I will try the next logical thing: recharge my batteries. I've heard of electronics acting weird when the batteries are weak so who knows. I'll keep you all updated on this!

I've had similar issues with joysticks on old PS, PS2 and Gamecube controllers, but that was more due to age and heavy use than anything else. Sometimes the joystick wouldn't return to the neutral position when released, but the worst cases were when the controller didn't initialize properly (which in turn causes the controller to misread the true neutral position for a directional input).

I finally cave in and got a fight stick, Madcratz brand. Frys had a shipment in last weekend when they were having the anniversary sale. Last Saturday, there were plenty in stock so I wasn't so keen on buying one that day. I went to another Frys a couple of days later and they didn't have any. The Frys store over in Concord (for those that are from around the Bay Area). So I went back to the Fremont Fry's and they have plenty in stock, but wait, they are all for the PS3. They only had one left for the Xbox 360 and it was an open box version. I got five dollars off but I should of gotten it last Saturday. The thing I don't understand was the PS3 version is selling at 10$ below the the 360 version and yet the still sit on the shelf, same exact limited edition fightstick. Are there that many more 360 players as opposed to PS3 players?

I think it's just a regional thing. Around here when there was a mad rush for SF4, there were plenty of 360 versions to go around and PS3 versions were sold out. The weekend when I posted that post about the Fightpad, the store had PS3 versions of the Fightstick but none for 360 (I guess for some reason more people play SF4 on 360 in Quebec than in Ontario). Who knows.
You sure it's "limited edition?" I read that Madcatz was interviewed saying that they'd keep making them as long as there was demand for them. And that was in regards to the Tournament Edition stick, no less. If you're sure the regular edition is limited, maybe I should grab that one I saw the next time I visit my parents back home. Hmm...

I don't know if it is confirmed or unconfirmed limited edition but that is what they printed on the box. There is a difference in the feel of the stick when I compared it to my cousin's tournament edition but the function is the same. Response time is the same. I still like the old Pelican version that I still use for my Wii because it has the GC connection. It was that Universal 3 in 1 xbox, ps2 and GC pelican arcade stick. It has the good spring, concave downward buttons and the regular USA type stick, not the ball type they use in Japan and everywhere else.
In around the bay area, I can't speak for the San Francisco side, but the east bay, I haven't seen any stores that carry any kind of arcade joystick. A buddy of mines order one on ebay and got stuck with some generic tekken 2 joystick that doesn't work. He is still disputing that purchase with ebay and paypal. Gamestop don't even list them anymore. So I don't know if Madcratz are still releasing them. At their website, the Gameshark online store, they show the Fightstick as backorder so I guess they will release some more but who know if they are still producing since the economy and production are slowing.
