Well, I finally did it. After going through about 4 different Godaikin Voltes in the past 10 years, I've finally got me the real deal: Volt in Box Voltes V (version 2). Paid some really big coin for it though. Here's a link: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320319408474&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011Got a question though. When was the version 2 (the one with the pen and rubber monsters) released? I've heard the 80s but does anyone know for sure? -Joe

First of all congrats! I think. That's a lot of money to spend, but hey if you are happy that's all the matters. The set looks excellent from the pics. I think BT1 is right, I think all of the Volt -in Box GA-80's were released in 1977. But I think it was made up to 1983 when Popy merged back in with Bandai.
4 Godaikins? Curious as to why would you go through buying the same toy, 5 times? Are you a purist collector? BTW, I understand this is the internet and the written word can easily be misinterpreted, I mean no malice to that question, I am simply curious as to why buy the same toy 5 times over? Other than the obvious, "I can." LOL
No the yellow elbow is another version of version 1, I think.

Congratulation. That is a really great condition Volt-in-Box. From the previous thread that I made, what you have is actually version 3 of the Volt-in-Box
The First one is Yellow Wlbow , 1977 The Second one is red elbow The third one is red elbow with 5 little monsters & different pen than the second one

BTW, I understand this is the internet and the written word can easily be misinterpreted, I mean no malice to that question, I am simply curious as to why buy the same toy 5 times over? Other than the obvious, "I can." LOL It's a long story, but here goes (if you have the time ): 1st Voltes: Got this from Matt Alt in a trade. I remember always wanting one as a kid and after seeing pics of it on various websites (Ted Terranova, ToyboxDX, etc) I just had to have one. It was in excellent shape, but... 2nd Voltes: Before Ebay became more prevalent, I used scour the newsgroups looking for deals. I ended up coming across a guy who apparently had scored a dept store stock of Godaikins and ended up buying 2 Voltes V's for $99 each, 4 Daimos @ $35 each and 4 Daitetsujins for $20 each back in '98. I think Erik Sjoen ended up buying the rest. ;D Ended up selling the excess after signing up on Ebay for some nice $ (this was the late 90s, before SOCs became popular). The last one I sold to finance Takatoku Macross stuff (big mistake...since it was expensive at the time). 3rd Voltes: Landed another deal, this time courtesy Ebay, from yet another clueless guy with loads of dept store Godaikins to sell. I had to pay more, but for $1100 I ended up getting mint Leopardon, Daidenjin, Tetsujin 28, Daimos and a Voltes (which was missing a few parts). I ended selling that too. 4th Voltes: Ended up paying close to market price on this (around a $1000). Toy was advertised as store stock, but after getting it, it was missing a screw in one of the thigh areas making the leg loose. From what I've noticed with the Godaikin Voltes releases, the black trayed missile versions have better quality control, better chrome apps, and different color decos on the stickers (yellow for the "VOLT LANDER" etc). Unfortunately, I got the white trayed one, so my picky @$$ ended up resellling it about 2-3 months after. As you can see, I've had quite a history with ole Voltes. I really hope this final one is indeed mint and a keeper. Since it's the Japanese/black trayed issue (which I've been hunting for years but could never afford til now), I imagine the quality control on it is awesome. Voltes is such an amazing toy, that I need to have it in my collection. -Joe

Wow, I'm now sorry I asked! LOL J/k...
Anyway, I think Drake Prasha may have this incorrect. The actual history of this toy is:
1977 Red Elbow Version first Version 1978 Yellow Elbow Version, but only a few were made like this, so it can be perceived as a mistake and is not Anime accurate, but because it is harder to find, it theoretically can be worth more. Many of the ones made in 1977 and 1978 had red elbows.
They made Voltes V until 1982 which had a blue tray for the missiles and has the black book in front of the "bonus" like the one you bought.
After that, 1983, the Godaikins came out and Bandai did away with the bonus...weak.
But, I was 4 when this toy first came out, 10 when the Godaikins were produced and even though I almost have eidetic memory, I can be completely wrong! LOL

Got the toy in today. What a let down. This guy told me the toy was in mint condition and never played with, yet there's paint chips and sticker chips on the sections where the toy gattais plus the the chrome on the legs are all worn.
This will be the last time I ever buy something from someone in Italy.

That is, unless the pictures were misleading. BTW, you can't hold 30 year-old vintage toys to the same standard as the newest SOCs. Please post actual pictures of the item, so we can decide to avoid this seller.

After owning several mint Voltes in the course of ten years, I know what to look for. The term "mint condition" in my vocabulary means perfect and brand new. Its the absolute highest grade a toy can receive. No matter if it's 30 years old or 300 years old. I was reassured by the seller that the toy condition was indeed "mint" but at it's best was in very good to excellent. -Joe

This is his idea of mint:
"I'm sure the item was unplayed, because the first owner, american like you, told me that he received as a gift when he was too grown up to play with it..and i do not play with the items i have to sell. the item is wonderful, and in mint conditions...mint means beautiful, very good...i'm not a toymaker so i can't tell you if it's factory new or like new, so this is the reason i tols you "seems to be never played". "
Sigh....
Avoid anything from the seller "matttingaz"

I ask the seller if the toy is sealed, unopened, and unused, and the person claims that it is since he just wants to get rid of the item and make money. If the seller had said the toy was C9 in the first place, then you would've avoided the item unless you were really looking for the item in C9. I just hate it when sellers have to be so deceiving.

first of all, it is a nice toy, but, I remember that auction, I was thinking to buy it for a while and when I have decided to buy it, it was ended now I know it was you who bought it. anyway, I am sorry that you got this problem with the toy, but you can just look for a replacment of the bad part, hopefully you can locate one soon.

I purchased a $200 toy from that seller before, didnt have problems. I think his mistake was to say the toy was in mint condition, for the price paid i can imagine how frustrating can that be...

Thanks for all the support guys. Honestly, the toy is in nice shape. The V1 and V5 vehicles are mint. But the V2, V3 and V4 vehicles aren't mint. Here's some pictures: This one also has wear in the chrome neck section from combining and wear on the left side sticker: And finally, the biggest flaw in my opinion, the wear and chips on the Volt Frigate's chrome legs: I honestly want to keep this and just find some mint pieces off Yahoo Japan but I want a partial refund. I'll keep you guys updated on what happens. -Joe

Yeah, for the price you paid, I'd want some cash back. The way he said it looks to not be played with, and the photo's provided, I would say misleading at best. I know I'd want pretty much perfection with that price and description.
